Maybe right before the draft but In like February, Graver was very anti-Tate I could have missed it. I know he was basicly love or bust. They definitely didn't want want him but it seemed more like this is so dumb we wont touch it and not outright hate to me.
Mythos27
I'm sorry but taking any RB at 4 is profoundly stupid. I don't care who it is or how good his hands are. You don't waste resources like that. Best I could ever go is mid first round and I'd have to be willing to bet my left nut that he'll be a Hall of famer/ home run threat. Love is actually a little lower than I thought but tate is way down there for their respective positions according to OTC. Love is 10th in total value 10th in average per year Tate is 29th in total contract value 37th in average per year Edited August 11 by Callidus OILERMAN, titanruss, KogaShuko, and 1 other

While I agree in principle and that its better value from the WR... Love's cap hit is almost the exact same as Pollards this year. The money argument for him doesn't really hold water for us when we are paying a worse player the same amount. Love will be making more in the future, sure.. but he will be 30 or more guys ahead of him once it's time to re-sign.

Rb contracts are really random as far as who seems to get what. Every other position guys reset the bar all the time. Rb has been bouncing around for a decade. It all depends on what money argument we want to go with. cap hit, total salary, cash, etc. He's 10th now. in 4 years I could easily see 20 extra costing more actual cap than him. Ill bite, you are right and he ends up being the 30th highest paid rb in 2028, by then where will tate be for wrs, 60th, 70th?

I'm wasnt comparing those two as much as saying the draft/ money argument in regards to RBs doesnt make sense for us specifically because we were already paying a guy that much. Also, i said 4 years out... like the year you re-sign these guys. Any starter you are paying after like 15th for cap hit feels like pretty decent value. 30th or later and its fantastic so becomes pretty much the same for me regardless of position. Its the huge contracts hurting the team and Highly pair RBs still arent getting huge contracts. But if you want to compare, to right before they sign their next contracts, Yes, he will be way further down the list than love. Tate's next one though will also be likely 3x Love's... that's why some people have the argument for truly elite RBs - that maybe its OK to draft a RB high and use them up as they very likely may only be elite for one more contract (if that) and after that 2nd contract will still be cheap compared to other positions. If they are as good as advertised they will get their new contract in year 4. We can only gurantee their salaries won't change for 3 years which is why I used 2028. Also chances are that Love isn't even the undisputed best RB of his class when it's all said and done and even if he is someone drafted rounds later could give you 85% of what he could. This isn't an assessment based on his talent; it's what has historically happened. People just don't seem to want to learn this very simple lesson. oldschool, rns90, OILERMAN, and 2 others

Well no offense to Tate but people could say the same towards him with regards to Stribling and Jakobi Lane right now and historically. Second round receivers hit all the time.
