Thanks for clarifying. As long as we're not making definitive long-term statements about a very young player's future, I'm good. I personally don't subscribe to the belief that preseason is "meaningless" and you can't draw anything from it but I do try to temper that with restraint from using the preseason to predict regular season outcomes. That said, I certainly saw a lot of concerning things in that game in areas that do tend to follow teams into the regular season. CB play was ALARMING. I'm not saying that we'll necessarily be terrible in the secondary this year but there is cause for concern IMO

I have faith in Saleh's D, and these CBs were much better last year than they've shown so far (particularly Flott).  They have good length, the way he prefers the D ( Sauce was on the HOF route until he left, when he just became "good") so I feel like he has what he needs for a some great D

Saleh's D was the best in the NFL at the of his stint with the Jets, and then their D game quickly became one of the worst once he left which suggests it wasn't all due to talent.

They were 7-10 in 2023 while scoring under 16 PPG, so I think the floor/ceiling here is better than people expect, especially if Ward plays well.

Did we really draft Tate or does Jamal need to see him in a jersey first

Long story short, he is an analytical dream. Absoluty elite in   catch rate   contested catch rate   drop rate   yards per route run against both zone and man

Correct me if I'm wrong but didn't Sauce make his name playing primarily press-man coverage vs the Jets?

I'm thinking Tate is a gamer.  He's got moves when the bullets start flying that might not show in practice.

He also excels on deeper stuff while they have been working on underneath for most of the joint practices.

Tate was not comparable to him in any way other than his draft selection. Chase played alongside Justin Jefferson in college - who already had 1,400 yards as a rookie in the NFL - and arguably outshined him despite being younger.  Tate played across from a WR of that caliber on OSU, and was nowhere close to him in terms of talent, production, or impact on the offense.

As I pointed out, Tate was a complete afterthought to defenses in college and was ineffective against quality teams. This was all supported by the statistics and visual evidence.  He's barely above average WR height, has fairly average athleticism, and weighs 190 pounds - people really need to temper their expectations.

“Peyton Manning threw a bunch of interceptions as a rookie too,” for wide receivers.

while true, it’s the outlier. We’ll see how it goes.

This was the case that people made for Will Levis
