I think they'll both be really good football players, but Reese has to turn into a consistent 10+ sack a year guy by year 3 and Styles has to be a top 5 LB. Same with Love. It's a lot to ask. It's why I'm most comfortable with Love, but if they want to trade back then I understand the why. The talent doesn't match the premium position draft strategy so they would rather have more darts in a bad draft. 

 

My hope is they trade back and get a 1st next year. That class is loaded.

People say this stuff every year. Like last year saying we needed to trade back and load up, get Carter, and then draft a QB this year. Look how that shaped up.

 

But just to play along... how is next year's class so loaded? Is it top heavy, with a 1st round stocked full of blue chips and then falls off a cliff half way through the 2nd round? Are we finding future all-pros in the 4th? What's up? What positions are lighting up the heat map (other than WR)?

I think almost all teams know this and I’d be shocked if any other team outside of the Rams give up a 2027 1st.

Not really. It's been known for a good while this was a bad draft class, especially in terms of top end talent. Go look at the top 3 WR and Edge prospects for next year. All of them blow this year's prospects out of the water. A lot more QB options which opens up trade scenarios with the right capital. It's a better draft class. 

 

I have no problem trading down with Dallas for 12 and 20 either. I just don't want to give up 101 to get it done.

Yeah I guess that's really what I'm saying. While it might not be worth getting a RB that high, barring injury I see Love being a top RB in the league. Reese and Styles, not so sure.

I agree with the overall point. The only thing I would say is that, at this time last year, I do remember there being discussion about us trading back, and loading up on picks for this year, because the QB class was going to be loaded and it would be a better year to get our guy. Didn't work out that way. Penn State guy was gonna be awesome, Nussmeier at LSU, Sellers at S. Carolina to a lesser extent. Ty Simpson's stock was on the rise. The guy at Iowa.  there were others, but those are the ones I remember right now, and it just didn't play out that way.

Reese plays a premium position while Styles and Love do not. Thats why Reese is expected to go higher despite only 90 or so rush attempts last year because Patricia is a moron who had Reese playing off the ball. On those 90 snaps, Reese showed elite traits and production. Does that mean he's a lock to be a good pro? Nope. Same is true of Love and Styles though. I always laugh this time of year when the draft nerds, media, and fans act like guys taken in the first two rounds are going to 100% be good or great players. They ignore the data that is right in front of them.

Well that's a lot different. I knew Ward was going to be the pick the day we ended up with the number 1 pick and said as much.

 

I understand your point though. A lot of respected posters did say that or that we should take Carter number 1. I'm not saying the same thing where year to year I want to trade back. I'd rather stick and pick Love, who I personally think is a game changer. But I get why we would trade back, and if we do then I'd rather it be with 27 capital.

We also thought Carson Beck might have a bounce back year, Donte Moore decided to return to Oregon, and Sam Leavitt left Arizona state and went to LSU..

Drew Allar was also supposed to be in the 1st round running, but he and Penn shit the bed early in the season and then he broke his ankle in October and ended his season.

 

It's possible some of these guys salvage themselves and turn out to have NFL careers worth the hype they had been getting. Too late to help the Titans in this draft, though. Bums.
