They went as far as to start hitting teams with fines who sit their players with bullshit injuries. I know they hit the Spurs with it but also several other teams if I remember correctly. OR... they should've just kept seasons at 16 games and left well enough alone. It wasn't broken, it didn't need to be fixed. BudsOilers Posted June 5, 2025 Author Report Share Posted June 5, 2025 Agree - 17 is just stupid and it's only a matter of time that they get an 18th game and knowing the NFL they'll make the networks and streaming services pay a premium for it. 18 weeks with 2 byes makes sense but the issue of whether guys can play all 18 is a legit issue. Another thing they can do to help improve recovery times between games is cut out all these bullshit Thursday night games. The only Thursday games all season should be the season opener and Thanksgiving games out of tradition. All remaining games need to be on either Sunday or MNF And since I'm on a soapbox rant, MNF needs to make a return as the prime time game and send SNF back to being the B game. MNF held a special place in sports/pop culture for a long time. It had a special aura about it because it was the marquee game of the week that had its own day devoted to it.
