I listened to "Football and other F Words" podcast. They released snippets from their draft coverage on each pick. As the picks were made they discussed the Titans reaching or getting value based on their own thoughts about where players should have been drafted. The hilarity is those opinions are based on what they have read or heard, not their own expertise, which they have none). They literally said if you take the players drafted and pretend they were drafted in a different order(Ayomanor before Dike) the draft looks better. Zack Lyons said Dike was the next Fitzpatrick. Zack Lyons also praised Anthony Richardson last year and had Sanders ahead of Ward. L-O-L I've seen people say that on here about their draft order. It's as if they don't think the Titans should have followed their own board and just followed Football and F Words board. Because clearly those guys know better who/what the Titans need, and where, than the Titans do. Or... maybe the Titans just need to keep following their own process over a bunch of wanna-be Mel Kipers. The LB class was weak at the top but there were a lot of draftable guys beyond round 1. And teams are always looking for cheap LB depth guys.

Sanders was an extreme example, but mid to late rounds were never high priority to people who speak of football for entertainment, while they absolutely are for NFL teams. It's also just the gloss over of how each team has grades based on their scheme, roster needs, positional values, character values, longer term needs.....whereas the media draft nerds are looking at a big board that ignores most of those elements. And as @OILERMAN points out, some of these puds on podcasts or message boards simply repeat what the draft sites are telling them. titanruss
Its pretty clear this new staff rates traits and leadership over production. I think thats' a mistake in general but we will see. Its fair to question the Femi and Dike picsk. Where they got them, and why, and if they would have gone anywhere near where we picked them had we not grabbed them up. We chased traits and specific uses (dike on deep crossers) thats all fine and good if you have a team of good football players.. but we dont. So its fair to complain. Almost every single prognoaticating site and ranking site and "FO inteview" rank had neither of these guys rated at where we drafted them. There's also no tape out there that makes Femi or Dike look better than the like next 7 guys of their positions taken. Thats all we can know.

The question was re-asked to borg/brink a few times because everyone was collectively thinking that these dudes werent the best "players" Ward/Elic/Helm production but also great athleticism/leadership The S - OK production 2nd year but injured pretty much all of year 3 - heavy on athleticism/leadership. Everyone else.. athletic/leadership/weak ass actual production. Doesnt mean they are going to be bad pros, just means its easier to question if they will be. As much as you bag on Restrepo for his athletic limits.... the same should be done for guys who didn't do much in college. Far more likely to make it in the league if you were a good player in college vs good athlete. Edited May 2, 2025 by titanruss
BudsOilers
Did you see the QB's at Wisconsin and Florida? That would certainly explain some of the production issues....How would he have done with better QB play? Add in the fact the guy can play all 3 spots and play on multiple special teams units, something the UDFA guy in particular can't do. Not saying that makes his opinions really good, he is still the numbers guy and not a film guy, but atleast he could admit he royaly fucked up.
