GLinks
I thought similarly about Sweat as a 2nd rounder early last year, then his stock fell due to the DUI. I feel like the inferior defensive line would be potentially dominant with Alexander added. FWIW, I believe the PFF big board ranks him at 35. It would be weird to go IDL B2B but maybe they think a dominant interior can help mitigate mediocre edge rushers. He’s a dude. I’d be surprised if he gets out of the 2nd round. He’s got a Darius Robinson (Missouri) type rise from last year going on. Not my preference at 35, but I would probably rather have him than Femi Oladejo at 35. It could also be that they like Alexander more than some of the Edge players in that territory beyond a certain point. rns90
Well the other point is that Sweat isn’t really a pass rusher at this point. So when Simmons isn’t there the interior pass rush goes to hell. Yeah they added Jones but he’s only on a one year deal. They are on a multi year rebuild and need to add talent and pass rushers to the DL—both interior and edge. Dangermode

Maybe people should stop talking about trading Simmons and start talking about trading Sweat? TerryBoats

Not sure what kind of value a two down run stuffer has at this point . As @oldschoolhas said in the past , if he doesn’t develop any pass rush ability he’s just another one of over drafted players. I don’t want to say he’s a bust or anything but his skill set ( to this point) could have been found later on.

Hopefully a 4th rounder, but probably more likely a 5th. If it'd be worth it, which it may not. rns90

And he’s already a run stuffer and that has value . Dude needs to get in better condition for this year though.
GLinks
I thought they are looking at Cam Jackson as a longer-term backup for Sweat. I don’t really want them to spend a pick on him but I feel like they’re gonna anyway.

I was kinda suprised listening to cover2 that apparently by the the backend of the season teams were doubling sweat more than simmons. Not that he is the better player, just suprised. GLinks
Looking at the 30 Visits, the only guys I seriously consider at 35 are Donovan Jackson, Darius Alexander, Kyle Williams and please-don’t-take-him Luther Burden III. And yes, I think someone is going to take “the best separator in the draft” (Kyle Williams) earlier than current consensus. Some podcaster (Tic-Tac?) pointed out that Cam Ward’s deep downfield passing numbers were much better with Kyle Williams than when he was at Miami. The whole league is playing two high shells to stop explosive plays. Teams are countering this by running the ball with guys like Henry and Barkley with their mobile QBs also doing serious damage. Sweat and Simmons offer the defense the ability to stop the run with a light box. That's invaluable. Although they aren't going to rack up sacks they also disrupt the pocket and force the QB to get the ball out. Hurts had 34 carries 194 yards and 5 TDs in the playoffs, Daniels had 35 carries and we know about Jackson. You have to be able to stop the QB/RB combo with a light box. I doubt Sweat even plays on known passing downs. Also why they aren't trading Simmons rns90, Dangermode, KogaShuko, and 1 other
ctm
Bogonzi said months ago that he wanted to improve the LOS play on both sides of the ball. Plus S. Day is a free agent in 2026 and Coburn is a jag and RFA next year. OILERMAN, and Dangermode

They suck.
