The Fake News craze has gone so far that reporting actual news is framed as left wing bias. This is the case in Europe too

It's impossible not to question the morality of people who choose to support politicians who spread vile and dangerous rhetoric like that.   If you're willing do that, what else are you will

If anyone actually wants to hear what Vance thinks instead of your preferred news outlets clickbait’s - watch this.  Starts around 9:30

I find it pretty hilarious how many folks use the rhetorical frame of "clickbait" or this idea that someone is "telling you what to think" when we all consume the same kind of media--as if you alone are doing some kind of complex rhetorical analysis of every speech utterance or written brief provided by JD Vance. It's hacky when you do it, it's hacky when others do it as well (before we start feeling victimized).

I can guarantee you many of us are paying close attention to what JD Vance has actually said, and are forming an opinion based on his words--not taken out of context, but kept well within context. A generic interview with his wife on FoxNews doesn't change any of that.

“He talked for over an hour… and in that hour, only five minutes of it was authoritarian pandering with crazy anti-democracy and bullshit misogynist  rhetoric.  Why doesn’t anyone want to talk about the other 55 minutes that were relatively harmless?”

And the answer is that the other 55 minutes are either obvious lies, attacking ppl, or rambling old man speak that no one can understand.

If anyone wants an actual substantive interview with JD Vance, not podcast drivel, there's this.

JD Vance is literally a big government conservative. He's basically a social conservative, fiscal liberal (yes, I did mean this).

He really does, like a lot of people in the new national conservative movement, want to use the government to create both carrots and sticks (taxes, tariffs, etc) to get people, businesses, everything, to do what they think is good or not do what they think is bad (not having kids, building toasters overseas, etc).

In this he specifically mentions that he likes the CHIPS bill, would have voted for it, thinks it's one of the best things they can do to encourage semiconductor manufacturing, but he doesn't like that the Biden admin conditioned the money on things like the firms having paid family leave or diversity initiatives. He calls both of those "very terrible things" lol.

Anyway I'm skeptical that's the main reason he voted against it, and that it wasn't just because he didn't want to vote with Democrats.

Same thing with the child tax credit. Seems like something he's support if you think he wants to make having kids a more popular choice. I'm pretty convinced that he just wants to make not having kids harder both economically and socially (calling them sociopaths, etc) though and not make it easier for those who do have them lol.

That’s a fair point but I read a perspective from a majority of posters on this forum that mirrors precisely what the liberal media is spouting on every single issue and during every single news outlet. Many people may be listening to multiple

perspectives but it is obvious that they only see the world through one lens and that’s the one that is presented to them. Same thing for people on the right who often “wait for marching orders” before talking about current events.

This was the point of my post. I said it's bad when Merc does it, it's bad when others do it as well.

All of us, myself and you included, are in some ways guilty of having a limited perspective because that is the nature of modern discourse and information consumption.

Consuming multiple perspectives, consuming any media really is only useful when you have a high level of media literacy and are aware of and skeptical of what you navigate. We're all shaped by our perspectives and what we "trust".

I agree with that. I think it’s a real sign of intelligence when people are willing to accept that maybe they don’t have a full understanding of every situation. I wish we weren’t all so pig headed and dig our heels in every time we disagree on here but I guess that’s just the nature of online message boards and this venue in particular.

The repubs will likely attack by insisting for everyone to recall the tough summer of protests in 2020, while simultaneously demanding everyone ignore Trump’s politicization and criminally inadequate handling of Covid, where 1,000s needlessly died. This is where they are mentally. Ridiculous and plainly dangerous.

To be honest, the one weak spot for Walz is the Riots in 2020. I'm curious to see how the campaign handles it.
