Trump on mocking Haley’s birth name: ‘It’s just something that came’

Former President Trump doubled down on mocking GOP primary challenger Nikki Haley’s birth name, saying that the nickname just “came” to him.

Fox News’s Bret Baier asked Trump in an interview that aired Sunday why he mocked Haley’s birth name on social media last week by repeatedly calling her “Nimbra.” Trump said that he gives nicknames to many people, suggesting that it is a useful strategy for him while he is on the campaign trail.

“I do that with a lot of people, like Hutchinson. I mean, he was polling at zero for about one year, and I called him rather than Asa, I called him Ada Hutchinson, and it just felt good to me. And with her, it’s just something that came. It’s a little bit of a takeoff on her name. You know, her name, wherever she may come from,” Trump said.

Haley, the daughter of immigrants from India, was born in South Carolina as Nimarata Nikki Randhawa. She has always gone by her middle name, “Nikki.” Last week, Trump took to Truth Social to call her “Nimbra” numerous times while on the attack against her.

I can't wait to watch people vote in droves for a man who is obviously a racist and misogynist.

and ridiculously petty and juvenile.  In any other job, this bullshit warrants a quick trip to HR, write ups, and if repeated a firing with cause.  Literally the only job where this wouldn't play out is election politics. Coming from the party of 'character counts' and accountability makes it particularly pathetic.

This. Republicans have absolutely destroyed any sort of moral high ground they may have once held with the leaders, especially Trump, that they have put in office in recent years.

God dammit, Nimrod-a was right in front of him and he can't even get the shitty nickname correct. This guy.

Lol that's what I thought as well. Like bro...Nimrod! What a fucking idiot. Easiest layup ever and he went racist with it instead of least marginally funny.

The least educated,  least cultured, and most prejudiced segments of the American population have waited their entire lives dreaming of a prominent political figure who could represent them and share their same values and worldview.

And in 2016, they finally got their guy.

Of course they all think he's the greatest President in US history.    He told them so himself.

What's so extreme about this?

The law says you can't discriminate against people based on gender identity, with these items being on the list. Do you think it's burdensome or extreme to ask you to not discriminate against someone because they identify as Gender Fluid or Non-binary?

The law says you have to respect someone's given pronouns without them having to show ID-otherwise it could constitute harassment?

Do you disagree? The example provided is continually misgendering someone. In this case, I guess what is so extreme is that if you encountered a trans woman (for example) you couldn't repeatedly use he/him pronouns to spite them.

Like I wonder if I was your coworker and constantly said things like "Justafan, I can't believe that's what she said!"--that wouldn't bother you?

Here's are some of the highlights of the law:

  • you can't discriminate against someone for having one of the gender identities listed above
  • you can't force someone to show ID to use a specific bathroom
  • be addressed by preferred pronouns without having to show ID or proof

the biggest ask of you in this context is to not harass someone and to use a person's pronouns...is that really extreme? Worth comparing to destroying the sanctity of our elections?

On the other hand, what kind of laws are conservatives pushing around trans issues---making use of pronouns illegal, making cross-dressing illegal.

Do you actually agree with this, or can you make the argument that this is "extreme"?

This is kind of like a situation happening in Ireland at the moment

Ultra religious wacko Enoch Burke and his Addams-like family have dominated the headlines

Enoch is a teacher, the principal at his school sent an e-mail asking staff to call a transgender student by their name, Enoch not only refuses but proceeds to berate the principal for trying to force him to at a public meeting

Enoch is suspended and then proceeds to show up to the school every day anyway. Eventually he is brought to court and refuses to stay away from the school. He has now spent two separate stints in prison and it is ongoing

Curious to see everyones thoughts on that because it could be a relevant case

No surprise, but Trump is projected to win New Hampshire. Will Haley stick in the race knowing she will get crushed in her home state or drop out before that can happen?

Biden won, too, for what it’s worth.

The Republican primary was over the moment Trump announced he was running.

I haven't been following things that closely. Is a 54-46% win for Trump over Haley in NH a good or bad sign for her?

She won't win.  But Trump is bleeding independent voters, NH and elsewhere.  Look at the latest Pa poll.

Furthermore, Trump having to run one on one vs a woman is the best thing that can happen for Democrats.  His misogyny is and will be on full display.

Per the reporting, Trump is unhappy that Haley refuses to drop out.  Trump views everything in a cinematic lens and compared to him, Haley is from central casting. He knows he lacks control, preaches divisive fear, and lacks policy chops and a positive message.  She is a near perfect foil and Trump won't be able to control himself in his attacks on her, and will look uglier by the moment along with his gaffes. Accordingly there's a full court press from repubs today urging Haley to drop out.  They know the longer this goes the worse the optics are for the general election, as well as exposing their cowardice in continuing to support the criminal manpig.

I hope she stays in it and amps it up, but realistically she likely needs to get out just before taking a mortal hit in South Carolina.
