That's what most said in the video you posted. More importantly the national democratic stance led by Biden was totally opposed to "Defund the police". Some Republicans wanted to defund the FBI LOL. For investigating Trump! Even that is ridiculous. I'm all for mental health resources, but let's pull that money from some of the other ridiculous programs we have and not the police. It started as a retaliation demand for police incidents. Democrats tried to play that into the reallocation of resources because they knew how retarded it was and how it would play out on the national stage. Defunding the FBI is every bit as dumb, and It's still amazing to me that this country hasn't held Trump accountable for firing the FBI director, clearly with the intent to shut down an investigation into his wrongdoing. Cities don’t get to run deficits like the federal government does. They have more strict budgets to keep to. If you are going to replace police on certain tasks (homelessness, mental health, etc) then you take it from the police budget and give it to the organization tasked to handle those issues. Cities waste money just like the federal government does. There may be specific situations where it makes sense to do what you suggest, but that's not what they wanted. It wasn't pragmatic governance, it was "the police are bad, take away their money".

No one said “eliminate police”. It was always the right wing spin on “defund the police” that made it sound like that was the goal. Again, it was a bad slogan, but the policy is sound. Actually, yes, there were liberals calling for a future with no police at all, and they thought targeted de-escalation of funding was a good step towards that goal. ctm
Trump is running for president so he can either pardon himself or stop the prosecutions of his 91 felony indictments. This isn't just empty rhetoric about "defunding", this is a real possible corruption of the criminal justice system. And btw, he's also running to fool his supporters into paying his legal bills under the guise of campaign contributions. 50M last year. She's not calling for reform. She's calling for taking money from the police and putting it into welfare. You can even watch the video posted above and listen to a couple of them straight up say it. I'm not saying it was all or even most, but there were definitely calls for abolishing police, and there is no doubt that the "movement" started as retaliation after Floyd and other police incidents. Also, I'm not arguing against police reform. I'm all for pragmatic government that makes sense and having a police force that is caught repeatedly on tape shooting unarmed civilians, gunning down people in the back, and beating the living shit out of people for minor resistance, there is no denying there are problems that need to be addressed. My point is that it was always stupid to defund police forces that keep us safe and deter crime. It's even dumber now that we've seen it fail, and people continue to double down on the nonsense. nine
That whole "Defund the Police" movement was and is some of the dumbest, most ridiculous shit I've ever heard. There's no question that law enforcement in this country is deeply flawed and in desperate need of reform.....but addressing the widespread issues within the system would be a ridiculously expensive proposition that would require enormous state and federal funding. So you've got idiots on the far left screaming "Defund the police".....and similarly short-sighted idiots on the far right touting "law and order" while turning a willfully blind eye to the problem because fixing it would cost money. And since the people at the far extremes care more about grandstanding than actually addressing the issues..... nothing gets done, nothing changes, and the problems they're supposed to fix just keep getting worse by the day. You see “defund the police” supporters say that we should let non-police officers deal with things like mental health issues and homeless issues. And to take some of the police funding and use it on something targeted to issues that police currently handle but would be better addressed by others. Again, the slogan is bad because it is so easy to spin in a way that it isn’t intended, which is exactly what conservatives did.
