The non-binding terms sheet, proposed by Nashville Mayor John Cooper and the Tennessee Titans, requires the Sports Authority to “provide not less than an additional 2,000 surface or structured parking spaces within the campus.”

At a Nov. 10 Sports Authority meeting, Russ Simons, managing partner at Brentwood-based Venue Solutions Group, said a stadium surrounded by large amounts of parking is an outdated design.

"It's actually representative of an older sort of design philosophy about sort of sticking something with a donut of parking around it. A lot of those stadiums, particularly on the Major League Baseball side, have sort of gone away. It is really an inefficient use from an urban planning standpoint," Simons said at the meeting.

At Allegiant Stadium, opened in 2020 for the Las Vegas Raiders, fans have to walk an average of one mile to get to the stadium, Simons said.

Nihill said that the question is not as much where someone parks, but how to get to the game.

“There’s a lot of parking spaces today that are not going to be available for games or for other events. But, we genuinely believe that there’s a way to take that paradigm shift and actually make it a better experience both for people attending games and also for the people around East Nashville and other neighborhoods,” Nihill said.

He noted shuttle services as a solution to parking issues, referencing the system in place at Allegiant Stadium.

“We don’t have all those answers yet. It’s still early thinking, but we actually believe that in a strange twist of the way that we’ve been thinking about this, that we can actually improve the experience for everyone by being forced to rethink how people get to and from the game,” Nihill said.

They definitely need to upgrade the shuttle service and add more satellite locations, I was driving further to get to the shuttle than it would take to get to the stadium. Also need a separate designated location for those who need handicapped parking, as the shuttle is the designated solution for non club ticket holders who need it and the state lots have few designated spots that get gobbled up quickly. Post game pickups are also not where they drop you off, and that's when you really need it to be as close as possible.

One of the primary reasons they want people with handicapped placards/plates to park offsite is a money grab, by state law they can't charge for parking for handicapped at any public facility's parking lot and since the stadium is funded by public money it qualifies.

Huh?  So anyone can just roll up to the lots on gameday to tailgate if they have a handicapped sticker?

huh?  Handicap parking fee collections has nothing to do with it.  It’s about the property value that the parking lot occupies.  A developer would much rather build something on that land vs using it for parking.

Speaking of stadiums, here in DC it’s crazy how things have changed since Daniel Snyder sold the commanders.  DC and MD are tripping over themselves to make a deal and they wouldn’t even talk to Snyder.  I really hope the Commanders land at the old RFK spot

No you need a permit to park at the stadium, they get around the law it by claiming they're offering handicapped parking via shuttle and they don't have enough handicapped spaces at the stadium, which is ironic because they could easily block off one the lots next to it for it. For instance if you park at the soccer games or at the airport with a handicapped tag, it's no charge.

State is running huge surpluses and has a giant rainy day fund, the 500,000,000 they threw in on the stadium is not what's keeping schools from being funded; besides they're just following the Texas example...

I haven’t looked at these rankings, but do they take into consideration cost of living? I mean, of course the teacher pay will be higher in high cost of living states. Same with the amount of money per student. And I know that Tennessee probably doesn’t put a big effort in paying for public education.
