I couldn't care less where the team plays, I just want the team/league to get the most money it can possible because I am a fan of the team. Not the city. If they want to be pious about it, the team leaves. The idea the NFL wanted/needed Nashville as a market was always an hysterical angle by the yahoos on here. They definitely want Nashville as a market, they definitely don't need Nashville as a market... BudsOilers
In this theoretical scenario, the team could have stuck it to the city and likely bankrupted them based on the existing lease, moved to the new city of choice to play in the Alamodome or the dome in St. Louis without a hitch.... Nashville is an appealing market, but Bud's point is that there are plenty of other markets that are just as or more appealing who would play ball with public funding. That's why pro franchises have cities over a barrel. It's hard to say no to these teams. BudsOilers, and rns90

But you're better off if you're not playing in a city for three years when you know you're likely going to leave. I feel like you're arguing just to argue. I'm just glad it got worked out. I'm not arguing just to argue. I am being realistic that the NFL only cares about the bottom line and if the city was going to be too difficult to work with and not chip in enough money of their own / try to take money out of the NFLs pocket in fees or taxes they will just go to a different city that would gladly pay much more money of theirs. Why would I not want that as a fan of the Titans? Edited April 26, 2023 by wiscotitansfan BudsOilers

Titans279
I hadn't paid much attention to this because honestly it seemed like it would happen. I'd guess that even if this deal had fallen apart I'm not sure that they'd immediately go to actually moving. You'd probably start to hear about them exploring their other options as they go back to the negotiating table. These things can take time.

Once it would come down to the NFL trying to find other locations the city would come back begging to continue negotiations as they were groveling on their hands and knees. Why would I not want that as a fan of the Titans? Knowing you're leaving a city takes 3-4 years away. Again, that's not a good thing. The Houston/Tennessee Oilers are a great example. They had a lot of talent from 1996-1998. But with the lack of fan support it was like they played 48 road/neutral site games in those three seasons. It's very hard to succeed when the fans aren't there.

I would gladly trade 3-4 shit years if it means the owner is possibly willing to splurge in other areas of the team (I don't think that's likely but it's not actively taking money away from the NFL). They had some talent but Chandler was hot/cold, McNair was raw, they had no pass rushers.....LOL But the part you're missing is that the city was already in breach of the existing lease and without a new one/new stadium, the team would have easily been able to become a team free agent and found a new city to build a similar project and used an existing venue to play in while the new place is being built. Bud and his leaders completely fucked up the relocation but no way does the current regime do the same.

The Rams were bad and in the last year in STL, they still filled 80% of the stadium, had one rough year in LA when Fisher got fired, and were a playoff team in 2017. The relocation had zero effect on the Rams.
