The US can't quit without the Strait opened and secured for the future in some manner.  Otherwise the US and world economy continues to get worse.  Does anyone seriously believe that if Trump just leaves, that Iran will just automatically open the Strait?

Game this out.....

Trump tries negotiations.  They fail.  Only alternative left, is boots on the ground to try and secure the Strait.  Given Iran's decades of preparations for aysymetric warfare and their geographic advantages (the Zaygros mountains, small coves to hide boats, etc) this fails, the US suffers casualities and in addition Iran tells the Houthis to block the Red sea as they've promised.  World wide economic conditions get worse.

Trump is now severely boxed in. What's his next move?  We all know that he's stupid enough and crazy enough to threaten or actually use a nuclear weapon.

Tell me what's the off ramp from this scenario.

I've increasingly been of the opinion that it's far too easy to assume a reasoned approach to anything Trump does. Occam's razor really does seem to suggest him and his cult denying reality, calling it a victory and everyone kinda shrugs and adjusts to the new status quo

I don't see how that really works without significant economic pain, assuming they don't get Iran to reopen the Strait but there are probably options to achieve that other than militarily and even if they don't ... it's all Biden's fault and prices go up and we move on. Iran now controls stuff and it's not us getting fucked because Trump says we like it.

I simply don't know what will happen and what the fallout will be - and I don't think anyone does - but I'm simply not willing to assume we fight until a good resolution is achieved. Trump doesn't reason like that.

If the general population in the USA or Europe start starving, or intensely suffering, it's a problem for leadership. Iran doesn't have this problem.

These Christian fundamentalists are pampered babies -- the Islamic fundamentalists in Iran are intimate with harsh conditions, co-existing with conflict. They can handle their country and their people suffering to an extreme that these pop-country loving, "my beer, my truck, my dog"  posers can't fathom. Think about how the USA reacted to the Towers; multiple countries have bombed Iran and threatened their existence -- Israel absolutely wants them destroyed (and vice-versa). Trump is a liar and neither he nor Israel's word can ever be trusted.

This is the problem with trying to bully everyone and breaking deals: eventually someone calls your bluff and refuses to bend the knee. Because unlike the corporations and media in the USA who are only concerned with profit, Iran feels a moral and religious conviction combined with the opportunity to expand their autonomy and control.

Because Trump so stupidly illustrated our military incompetence, he's set the stage for Iran to make a power play. The problem is that we aren't willing to take a full measure. You can't drop some bombs and demand some stuff and walk away -- you have to commit to a full, expensive, historical war to take over Iran. We're absolutely not gonna do that and Iran knows it. Even if the USA was willing to commit the lives and resources needed (which it isn't), that level of brazen land grab would be denounced by all our allies.

I think Israel needs to be very careful here. They've enjoyed the protection and investment of the USA, but all their neighbors want them destroyed, and even Western support has disappeared due to their treatment of Palestinians. There's a very real scenario where Israel overplays their hand and gets absolutely smacked.

The deal won't hold though as Israel will just keep bombing until they get what they want. We've unleashed something that can't easily be put back in the box. Even a great deal on paper doesn't stop Israel from throwing a grenade on it and we are right back to square one.

Furious Republicans stormed out of a classified briefing on Iran on Wednesday amid fears the US is preparing to invade the country as Tehran refuses Donald Trump's peace overtures.

Nancy Mace walked out early, venting that 'we were misled,' while pro-Trump committee chair Mike Rogers warned 'we're not getting answers' as Pentagon chiefs briefed the House Armed Services Committee, sparking fireworks on Capitol Hill.

House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mike Rogers was uncharacteristically agitated after leaving the briefing, stating that he had few details about the direction the war is heading.

'We want to know more about what’s going on,' Rogers, an Alabama Republican, said. 'We’re just not getting enough answers.'

Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Roger Wicker of Mississippi felt the same after his own briefing.

'I can see why he might have said that,' Wicker told Politico of Rogers' comments.

Nancy Mace wrote on X: 'The justifications presented to the American public for the war in Iran were not the same military objectives we were briefed on today in the House Armed Services Committee.'

The walkout lays bare the fractures in the GOP over the Iran war, with skepticism growing among lawmakers about the timeline, scope, and purpose of the prolonged assault.

We're going to wake up Saturday morning to a ground war w/ Iran.

All our assets may not be in place yet.  But it sure looks like it's coming at some point.

In that youtube vid, they talked about Netanyahu giving a 48 hr time frame to finish taking out targets. Seemed some urgency which combined w/ Trump's propensity towards doing things like that on friday night after markets close... makes me believe if might happen sooner rather than later.
