In a bizarre interview with Fox News last night, President Trump stood next to a sculpture in the Oval Office that he said depicts former president Teddy Roosevelt, and explained that statues are vita

Biden misspeaks, trips and says some stupid stuff sometimes.   Trump is a complete fucking moron and embarrasses himself routinely.    If you don't see the difference you're either

I guess his own sister is a part of the deep state.

All he wants to do is appeal to his base,” Barry said in a conversation secretly recorded by her niece, Mary L. Trump. “He has no principles. None. None. And his base, I mean my God, if you were a religious person, you want to help people. Not do this.”

Barry, 83, was aghast at how her 74-year-old brother operated as president. “His goddamned tweet and lying, oh my God,” she said. “I’m talking too freely, but you know. The change of stories. The lack of preparation. The lying. Holy shit.”

Lamenting “what they’re doing with kids at the border,” she guessed her brother “hasn’t read my immigration opinions” in court cases. In one case, she berated a judge for failing to treat an asylum applicant respectfully.

“What has he read?” Mary Trump asked her aunt.

“No. He doesn’t read,” Barry responded.

If Trump loses in November, it seems apparent to me he could have tried harder to have won, politically speaking. This "appealing to his base" thing is fine but would seemingly have been a bad move, if he loses.

The obvious conclusion is winning isn't that important to him and he's more interested in what comes next. Some sort of media power is the often suggested next step ( I don't think the media thing will pan out as it's a tougher business to get in than it seems, and he's not a good enough operator or business man to pull it off), but just a cult leader of sorts is more likely, whatever forms that takes. It still seems a bit weird to start this at his age given his obvious health concerns and family history of alcoholism etc, and he isn't likely building anything for his children to take over - probably giving too much credit for what is just a conman doing conman things.

Trump is a sociopath. He isn’t looking at the situation with a traditional political strategy. He craves validation and devotion. He can not ever admit to making a mistake. Winning is absolutely important to him. Losing is not an option, to the point where he must claim that the election is rigged if he loses.

This seems to appeal to his cultish base, so it doesn’t hurt him among republicans. And any opposition to him within the party is squashed because all Republican elected officials (and candidates) need his supporters to win an election. Pissing off the Trump supporters means losing the vote of the majority of Republican voters. The question if how that plays out when Trump is no longer in office. The GOP voters will still largely be Trump cultists.
