So I'm taking the knife. And I'm throwing it right at the fucker's eyes, hoping to land a hail mary throw before it gets into either bat or knife range. If its a fight to death, you have to pick the knife. Not sure how you would kill or even injure a gorilla or a bear with a bat. If the goal is to survive, the bat might give you a better chance. As mentioned, swinging a larger object around and having a little more distance might be enough to prevent an actual attack from happening.
