Fight to the death: Knife vs bat who wins?

The bat has to be right and make solid contact. The idea you'll miss and reload before the knife comes in seems far fetched and unrealistic. 

 

The far fetched and unrealistic part is believing bats need to be swung and reloaded.

You're dead right about distance.   I add angles too as modern karate as it was incorporated into MMA is very good at quickly shifting your foot work to not only move in and out of attack range but also move out of line of attack.   Speed and training are going to be primary factors in who wins.

 

That being said.  Anybody with a modicum of physical ability could still have a solid chance to get in a whack with a bat.  And a knife? Just one Oops and you could be done. 

 

I like knives but its always hard to ignore weapon range when someone knows how to use it.

It was super long and such a great read.  So many bad choices in there.  One of my favorites was the people who wanted a nail gun, not realizing that requires carrying around an air compressor and that when you shoot nails into the air they don't travel like bullets and are fairly harmless.

 

I also remember a guy who went into great detail describing his plan to lock himself in the bathroom.

 

I think my final decision for my 3 items was a machete, hornet spray, and a bag of medium sized rocks.

What advantage have I said you have with the bat? Ive said I would take knife multiple times. Ive simply pointed out if you go against bat you have to be willing to eat a shot and it doesn't take much from a bat to impair you. An easy simple swing or jab from the bat could drop you and throw off any attack with the knife. I've just been laughing at your assessment of being able to close the distance in a fashion where someone with a bat won't have a counter attack or opportunity to nail you with a swing effective enough to end up winning the fight.

I love the claim it's easy to block the bat with one arm or eat a shot.

 

I'd love to watch some of you try to kill with a knife after someone shattered your other arm, shoulder blade, or kneecap first.

I recall training with 2 tennis balls on a rope, at different lengths at the end.  You'd swing and spin them, and try to hit one and they randomly bounce around. 

 

Or tape quarters on your jackets for targeting in foil.

I mostly trained saber so for me it was footwork footwork footwork.  I was spared the endless disengage drills, at least until I got good enough to get to the point in line portion of the lessons.

This is a fight between you and another person who has equal size, weight, skill, etc.  The vast majority of us have little to no real combat training or knife-specific training.  Thus, your opponent has no training, has never stabbed someone with a knife, and the bat is the better choice for most of us.

 

Now for someone like @Justafan who is a trained soldier, the knife probably makes more sense.

 

To be fair, I don't have any real training with a knife or a bat.  I did carry a knife in combat but the only time I ever "tussled" with someone up close, I just muzzle stamped them, which is where you take the barrel of the rifle and jam it into their face.  It's incredibly rare that anyone gets into real hand to hand combat.  Almost all firefights are short, disorienting because you don't necessarily know where the bad guys are, and only end up producing casualties through luck or when one side surprises or ambushes the other side at close range.  

 

The sad truth is, a great deal of my combat veteran Soldiers would get their ass kicked in a bar fight because they are overconfident and their training is more designed to be used with a group rather than this kind of situation.

 

Some of these guys who have backgrounds in BJJ are far more qualified on hand to hand than I am.  Want to know how to conduct a raid, company attack, or an airfield seizure?  I'm your guy.  This stuff?  I have some training but I'm no pro.  

 

Regardless of the weapon, the best defense in my opinion is to get away and remove yourself from the situation so who cares what weapon.  The second best defense is to get in close and get them to the ground where I feel I have an advantage in training over the average person.  In that case, a knife would be advantageous.  That's my reasoning, that's my debate.  I'm sure it's different for every person for a ton of reasons.

 

Regardless, this is probably the best damn thread in the history of Titansreport!

You would definitely need to make them miss or at least deflect enough that it would only be a glancing blow.  For most people, a direct shot would be devastating.  If you're one of those guys who's never been in a fight before, it would just be straight murder after that.
