If there is one thing that Zelda has taught me, it's that fusing a knife to a bat is the ideal solution in this specific fight

Fuck it. I've changed my vote. Knife it is.

So what's more funny is that when I brought this up it was to all the dads at a three-year-old's birthday party.  Obviously everyone had an opinion.  Then one or two of the moms came around and was li

Lol. Does that baseball have a brain and the ability to react? Dumb argument.

There are literally hundreds of vids that show how to disarm someone with a bat. Here is another one with live footage and a breakdown of why you have to step into and not away from the assailant. Contrary to what you and others claim, you have to get within range to hit someone with a bat which gives anyone who knows what to do an opportunity to get inside the reach afforded by the bat.

You should post a video of your technique and knife skills.

I don't need to. Google is your friend. Anyone with basic self defense training would have a chance to deal with some arrogant idiot with a bat. The fact you think you could just plant your feet and swing a bat to keep someone at length is nuts.

How many people on this message board can fight? With a bat or a knife? I’m calling bullshit on any of you unless you have training. An individual that is trained in any fighting style, especially in jiu jitsu will fuck either up.

So it’s untrained individuals with bats and knives.

It’s a toss up… They have no idea what they’re doing.

A trained individual will disarm both bat and knife combatants and kill you with their hands, legs…

The argument is simple and we've already discussed the correct answer 100 times over.

As long as you can take a hit to the arm/side using your non-stabbing hand to block your head from getting wholloped ... the knife wins.

This is a fight to the death with unskilled people. They go for the head. Block that and deal with some arm pain - probably a small fracture but nothing adrenaline won't get you past - the bat is rendered useless and you are close enough to stab them 3 or more times per second until you are done or distance is created again. Then you can keep your distance and watch them bleed out.

This is extremely myopic.

The guy with the bat isn’t just going to take one shot and stop.  He's going to take multiple shots within a few seconds time.

He’s also not necessarily going to swing for your head.  Heck if I’m in this fight, I’m probably taking my first shot at a kneecap, the rib cage, or the arm holding the knife.  Those are much easier targets to hit and disabling enough for me to land second and third blows that end this fight pretty quickly.

The bat is also not rendered useless in close range.  It can be very effective as a choking device or used to hit you in the balls and put you on the ground instantly, after which you will be receiving a Mortal Combat ending.

You’re also ignoring the context of the scenario, which is two equally skilled/trained people.  If you have someone who can “take” a hit to the arm/side and continue, then you’re also going to have a bat wielder who can land multiple pops pretty quickly or perhaps “take” a grazing knife blow.

For the knife to be truly effective, it’s gotta hit an organ or a major artery and that requires some skill/training.

if you are close enough to get hit in the arm and you are coming in for the stab.. its basically impossible for them to get a second swing in before you get into stabbing range as long as you are moving towards them. the bat is useless after the first contact AS LONG AS you continue getting closer.

its also easy to switch knife hand depending on swing direction.

good luck choking someone while getting constantly stabbed in the gut. how does this choking scenario even play out?

In a life and death fight and you get hit on the off arm and then receed and cry about it instead of going in for the kill.. well you deserve to die and were never going to win any battle anyhow.

I guarantee you that even if I was only able to hit you in the arm, you'd go down, adrenaline and all.  I'd probably hit you a second time with the butt end of the bat before you hit the ground.

You knife people keep operating under some strange assumption that us bat people are taking one wild haymaker shot like we are in a homerun derby or something.  But hey, I guess if you can't understand how the bat would really be used it's to our advantage should this fight actually occur in real life.

Switching knife hands like a ninja after getting hit in the knife arm?  LOL

no way in hell you hit on the arm and anyone goes down. ... likely not even with a perfect connecting haymaker... which you say you wont do.

good luck hitting in the balls. what angle even is that?

you dont switch after getting hit in the arm doofus... you switch when they show their stance they prefer. lefty baseball stance? block right, stab left. switch for the opposite. You dont need skill to stab with an off hand form zero distance like you need to with a bat. no one is juggling knives here. you just have to block 1 blow.

Have your wife hit you in the face with your son's little league bat using one hand and standing on one foot.

Post the video for us.

Again I don't need to. If she swung a bat at me I'd be inside her reach before she was half way through her swing.

Okay I’m going to embarrass myself further.

I trained in sword fighting when I was younger.  I was an NCAA fencer, and was defeated many times by people who have by now won Olympic medals.  I also did my fair share of foam bat fighting as a kid.

Judge away.

My first point is the fighter that controls the distance is the one that wins the fight.  Often that’s the DEFENDER, not the attacker.  Tiny dude comes running like an idiot at big dude on the phone… big dude closes distance unexpectedly and tiny dude is done.  It didn’t matter whether tiny dude had a bat or a knife in his hands, he was fucked up because he charged like an idiot.

My second point is that beaning people on the head is fucking easy.  It happens all the time with noobs.  People have to learn and practice to strike other targets but the head is the most natural place to hit someone when you swing a stick.

My third point is if all things are equal, a martial artist trained with a bat is going be able to swing moving forwards or backwards.  The top and the bottom of the body can work independently.  That’s like 99% of the point of learning balance and footwork.

The trained bat would look more like kendo than Mark McGuire.  The trained bat could also transition to grapple and fuck up a charging knife at the time and place of the bats choosing.
