Jonboy
Probably been brought up in one of our Whisenhut threads, but has anyone looked at Philip Rivers contract situation? He restructured to help the Chargers in Sept but still has a ton of money on the back end. Chargers gonna have to cut ties at some point. Probably crazy, but maybe Rivers becomes our Kurt Warner in the twilight of his career? Alabama native, too Wanna know something weird? Rivers was a actually a Titans fan in real life. Pipe dream, but that would be amazing.
Tex in a Can
per John McClain One big reason that Whisenhunt chose the titans over the Lions was that the Lions wanted to keep certain assistants. per total rumor The 1 million extra Whisenhunt was asking was above what Ruston/ Tommy offered, but it was put to a family vote by Tommy and the other members voted to give him the money. Tex in a Can
I dunno, in the press conference he sounded a fair bit like Bud to me. "I just like the fact he will call his own plays" Tex Tommy Smith is going to be a much better owner than Bud ever was because he thinks things through and does not say and do crazy things at the spur of the moment. rhonderoo
He came off as someone who doesn't like being in front of a camera, and due to his size he probably suffers from some self-esteem issues. He also didn't sound like he knew a whole lot about football, off the cuff. Paul K. is certainly making a friend, it seems, lol.

I don't want the guy to think he knows what he's talking about in terms of Xs and Os. I appreciate the fact he has a long resume running businesses and seems to know how to properly delegate his authority. This is the kind of guy who would never, I hope, force a guy like VY on our coaches.
rhonderoo
Yeah, he seems okay with Webster being the football guy, and Wisenhunt probably saw that. Which is fine. Like you say, much better than having to have your QB, even though he's a mental midget.

I could tell from his very first press conference that he was perfectly happy to defer all football decisions to Webster. He couldn't be more opposite from Bud. His title may have been COO of KSA Industries, but clearly he was little more than Bud's yes man. I'm not sure he knows what color a football is, but assuming Webster turns out to be a capable GM (jury's still out) that's probably a good thing. It will get interesting when it comes time to find the next GM, but for now this is Ruston's show. Hell, Tommy didn't even meet Whisenhunt until after he was hired. luvyablue256
We probably haven't heard a Titans coach or player say "Super Bowl" since 2000.
Number9
I think it's a lot to the idea that a losing SB coach spends time trying to get back to the SB and win it. When they get canned, they also spend a lot of time looking over their mistakes and planning how they would do things differently. Just looking at Whiz's moves so far is extremely impressive. He is bringing in some seriously good looking hires. The Titans have not held the best reputation around the league, so they have to have promised the Whiz something really good. I doubt he could get the talent he's bringing, unless he had something intriguing. It's pretty obvious, he is going to get to run the show. I think he's been given power and the bankroll to get the job done.

It's just a matter of piecing it together. Obviously, no stupid contracts would be allowed but it really looks like they're letting him go out and get what he perceives to be the best guys he can.
