Green dot coverage LB - just what we needed.
At least this regime has a draft strategy that makes sense and complements the FA haul.

Sweat at FB and Big Jeff at RB.

We haven't had a LB of this archetype in a long time. Could get stronger, but awesome instincts, speed and coverage skills. Makes plays on all three downs.
Love this one.

LB was the biggest need, Gray was the best LB available, and he was a good value at 106

A lot of those day 3 CB's the Titans brought in for visits are still available.
Kris Abrams-Draine
Caelen Carson
Jarvis Brownlee Jr.

Yep. That's my preference but there's always Maye if Simmons just wants huge money.

Cedric Gray played in 12 games in 2023. 121 tackles, 11 TFL, 5 Sacks, 1 INT, 4 PD, 2 Fs
Athletic profile with a RAS of 8.04. Ran a 4.64 at the Combine with a 35.5" vertical jump. One of the few LBs in this draft athletic enough to hold up in man coverage. He's not a big strong guy so he's not the best block shedder, but that's why you put 3 gigantic DLmen in front of him and let the kid go make plays.
Great pick IMO.

Ridley is the number 1
In case people aren’t aware - Ridley and Hopkins are an elite WR duo. Not a top 3 duo, but one of the better duos in the league.

Without getting into Sweat the Titans weakness was their two lines. It's why they had one of the worst rosters in the league. With their two picks they drafted two massive athletic players to shore up both lines.
Sweat can be paired with Simmons on early downs and allow the defense to play zones to prevent explosive plays. He's a more talented version of Tart. They can still stop the run while stopping explosive plays in the passing game.
Who knows whether the individual players pan out but I do see what they're trying to do and it makes sense. It clearly fits into the analytical model.
I thought going in they needed to shore up both fronts.

Titans HAD to upgrade their Dline. Newton, Fiske, and Jenkins were all guys who played the same role as Simmons. I like those guys but I've told people all offseason that the Titans weren't going to draft another 3T DT because that wouldn't move the needle for the Dline.
Where I was wrong, or at least didn't see what they were doing, is that I thought they would go after a 5T/3-4 DE to replace Autry but instead, they slid Joseph into that role - who is MUCH bigger than Autry, and so now the need was a two gapping NT.
The positives are that the Titans have a much bigger and more stout Dline than last year. It will be really hard to run up the middle on these guys, and they'll have the ability to run dynamic blitzes that you simply couldn't with the personnel they had last year. The downside is that I think the pass rush is still weaker without Autry, and they may feel more need to manufacture pressure without the ability to get pressure with the front 4/5.

I will say it’s kind of funny to see the entire Titans subreddit that was 85% Mariota Stans, and then 90% Trust in Jrob, and 75% Vrabel bootlickers now blindly trust another new GM. You can’t even criticize anything or you get mass downvoted 😂 and Yeah I rooted for Mariota but I gave it up way before some of them MFers 😂

In 2023 only one player graded out at 85 plus in both pass and rush defense by PFF: Sweat.

What if Bill Callahan said he was his favorite DL in the draft?
