No idea where this nugget fits so thought it might worth starting a thread for all Titans non HC offseason discussion.   This was meant to happen last offseason but Sweat never showed up so

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

That’s a lot of hooch

Def should have kept Foreman for another year and def should have used him more in that playoff game. We all said it at the time.

But Tannehills second INT was one of the worst Iv'e ever seen. He was nearly pick 6'd the first time on the exact same play... so when they run it again he doesn't even look just throws.  He was so shell shocked and a blind robot out there that it dint matter if we had the greatest RB of all time out there - you put the ball in his hands that day and that game and he was going to find a way to make us fail.

And he basically never played again. I think he was a backup in Cleveland the next year and got cut.

Foreman?  He was a starter in Carolina the next year and was decent from what I remember.  After that I don’t think he did much.

Forget about Tannehill, Henry or Foreman.  The worst thing they did that game is on third and one not taking the easy first down and instead trying to be cute.  They had all the momentum at that point, it was, what, mid-4th?  There was no excuse for not sneaking it, getting the easy first and continuing to move the ball like they were doing.  I don’t know whose decision it was to try that stupid QB fake and run but it cost them and then giving it to Henry on 4th when the Bengals were selling out to stop the run, inexcusable.  There were lots of reasons the Titans lost but if you want to find one, it was that sequence.

My point was even with the INTs, if Vrabel had just benched Henry and gone with Foreman we still win.

The Bengals knew that play was coming as soon as we lined* up in shotgun.

I still remember being happy that they were short of the first before the 3rd down play because it meant an extra play because I knew, or thought I knew, that they’d easily pick it up.  IMO they didn’t get nearly enough heat for that sequence.

I get your point.

It's just that most teams clamp down on the run game in the playoffs anyway so hard to know for sure. If Foreman is doing bad, then Vrabel gets laughed at for not using Henry. He def should have given Foreman more chances. We all agreed on that at the time and even the most ardent Henry fans were reluctant to believe he'd be back to normal that game.

My point is, Tannehill was so shell shocked that we were lucky he only had 3 picks  - could have easily been 6-7.  And putting the ball in his hands at all that day was a losing endeavor. It's hard to imagine us winning at all if he needed to throw it.

But as fans we make excuses for what coulda happened "if only".  We won the top seed that year and never really looked good doing it. I think most everyone was way less confident in that team than the previous 2 years. The only way we advance is if everyone shat the bed worse than us.

We had a real shot to get 2 superbowls in a row.. that 3rd year was a whole whole lotta luck and a prayer that Henry, after a magical recovery, could elevate above our reg season.

There's a reason JRob cried, the Tannehill window was over.

If you aren't going to take the easy first with a QB sneak then be aggressive and go to the end zone to AJ. Incomplete and you just sneak on 4th down. And yeah, they didn't catch nearly enough flak for those calls.

Fully disagree with that. Our defense was top 2 in the league at that point with everyone getting healthy  Henry coming back and Jones and AJ finally all on the field together made us formidable. The offense and coaches just shit the bed.

We were barely skating by offensively all year  hoping to get healthy but there was a severe lack of offensive chemistry the whole season - even with a healthy Henry early. We were 15th in scoring (aided by a few Def scores) and 17th in yards.. like 25th or something in passing. We had a terrible OC too.

It's a rough expectation to assume everything comes together in the playoffs and we start playing good offensive football when we hadn't done it all year.

I think Vrabel rightly did the thing he was supposed to and put it on the back of his two stars. But when neither showed up, we were fucked. Yes, he should have subbed Foreman in early when it was obvious Henry didn't have it that day (also Henry was known to do better as the game goes) ..but Foreman would have had to have had the game of his life to give us a shot with the way Tannehill was playing on tilt that day.

For sure, but the 3 or so games all 3 of our weapons were healthy we averaged 31 PPG. Should have rested Henry another week or used him primarily as a decoy and just straight up fed AJ. But yeah, they shit the bed, but it doesn't mean the talent wasn't there in a weak AFC to make a run.

Yeah I was selling that point back then too. But it was super early in the season.

Years removed now, the momentum feels easy to read. It was a rough season and we never had a flow outside a couple games at the start.  It's a lot to ask.  We weren't hot going into the playoffs. We were getting healthy, but there's a difference

They should have ran the second half of the 49ers game plan and hit AJ with 20+ targets. That was back to back playoff games he feasted early and then they just completely went away from him. He had 142 yards on only 9 targets and 5 receptions. C'est la vie.
