Borgonzi comparing him to Gibbs at the combine was no throwaway comment.

Yep. I immediately had to admit that he was on top of the list of most likely picks when I heard that. Gibbs is the quintessential prototype when you say yiu want a player regardless of positional value.

No idea where this nugget fits so thought it might worth starting a thread for all Titans non HC offseason discussion.   This was meant to happen last offseason but Sweat never showed up so

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

Looked at last year and we only had 9 rushing TDs. 9. That is pathetic. People are upset over the fact we'll probably draft Love at 4 because he's a running back but he's going that high too is because what he can do in the passing game. A dump off can be for a 50yd TD. Not many on earth can do that. Pollard and Spears certainly can't do that.

Not that I really want to wade into this but I believe AJ Green

might be on the list .   I went with under 1000 yards and he had 960 ish.

Not counting TE but how many great WR had seasons where they had under 1000 yards receiving in college and still panned out?  Now add in the disclaimer that they were a high draft pick.

Thats what I would be more interested in.

Really quick google search says AJ Green and Steve Smith.

Green is on the cusp but 200 yards in an era 20+ years ago is significant to me.

I would also argue you can always find exceptiosn when looking in hindsight. There are guys who barely produced at all that went on to have good careers but that has nothing to do with the point I'm making.

We're talking about what NFL teams look at when they make their evaluations and what they value in prospects. In that regard, the numbers don't lie. Guys with Tate's production and physical traits have NEVER gone top 5 EVER. Not once.

So...

Tate, Ridley, and Robinson, eh? Nice.

Or... Cooper, Ridley, and Robinson if they take Love? Hopefully Cooper can play some in an X role...

And maybe we draft Lance later to develop into the X role and move Cooper into the Z when Lance is ready.

Because that spot (and RB) are almost always “stats” positions.  You better produce close to video game numbers in college and dominate if you want to be taken as a high pick.

Not to toot my own horn too loudly, but I did compare him to AJ Green and then a couple days later ran into a YouTube short where Tate was reacting to Pat Surtain II comparing him to Green. One of those "hey... maybe I'm not so dumb" moments.

You guys are just wanting to not do the work of speaking on his play and rather look at stats. Carnell Tate produced quite a bit in 10 games in an offense that has the best receiver prosprct since Julio Jones on the other side. I really believe if he plays in two more games, you guys arent even having this conversation. That's what makes this sooo lazy on your part.

Jaylen Waddle finished with like 600 yards and went ahead of his teammate who was also a WR and was also the reigning Heisman winner who just racked up 1800 yards.

Like, I promise you its more than just looking at stats.

Wondering if, with no big contract/no brainer signings coming, if we're close to a Simmons pay raise or Sko extension. If not, it's a lot of current cap to not go after a FA like Okereke. Also makes a Jennings signing close to 0 now, imo

Unless they take a receiver in the first, I dont think theyre gonna draft one until day 3. Give Dike and even Ayomanor avenues to play unless you know you're getting a serious upgrade.

We're likely looking at Ridley and Ayo on the outside. Wandale in the slot. Dike will rotate in. They may add a mid-round guy. I don't think Ridley coming back totally kills WR at 4, but it weakens the odds pretty strongly. It's going to be Love.

Says the guy who keeps comparing a guy with 800 yards in college playing next to the #1 WR in the country to HOF WRs in any context other than it being a longshot.
