But knowing how quickly some of these guys can start and stop would likely be much more useful. Would love to see the graph for some of barry sanders runs. probably looks like an ekg of aomeone having a heart attack. Yeah, thought about this as well when this became avaliable 5 or so years ago in terms of measuring lateral agility/quickness, short burst, medium burst from 5-20, burst + speed over 20 yards. Funny enough, there's better ways of measuring those in most combine drills. Unless someone creates a sensor filled batman suit that isn't cumbersome, the GPS/ video assisted calcs will be incredibly limited in actual usefulness. The MPH is "fun" because there's not a yearly combine of all active players to know where they stand athletically (ignoring experience, of course) , and it let's one draw extreme extrapolations on "data based" conclusions where there isn't real data. Most plays are more quick bursts of stop and start moves. Quickness is way more important than top speed. Derrick Henry says otherwise

When he doesn't get a lane to get into the level his top speed is meaningless. It's why he needs a clearer path than most RBs. Callidus
Justafan
20 MPH might be a meaningless football stat but it’s an impressive athletic feat regardless. Mythos27, IsntLifeFunny, and OILERMAN

Henry needs Lamar more than Lamar needs him, but when he has Lamar he is still able to do things a very tiny few people have been able to do at his position at his age. You just need to stop hatin. Btw, he passed Walter Payton on the all-time touchdowns list for RBs. Sweetness. oldschool

They were the #1 rushing team the years before Henry got there, the lead back of the committee, Mitchell, averaged 8.1 yards. This season has been very telling. The point he was making is other guys would do more with less. Henry will batrering ram his way for 3-6 yards when there isnt much there when other guys could get more out it because they can maneuver at low speed. Then you switch the situation to the rb is untouched till they are 5 yards down field and henry becomes a monster.

I haven't had any real evidence but I've been saying for years that these GPS numbers we get through the media are bullshit.
