What? Nah. Based on info we had I liked the hire too.

The reason I’m saying there’s an issue with hiring is because of what Callahans mistakes were. The guy didn’t know simple rules, he didn’t understand when to go for it or play it safe, just a lot of unawareness overall.

We have coders going through 10 interviews with testing the whole way. How does a multimillion dollar job that’s 1/32 not vet that thoroughly.

Put Callahan through a boiler room of situational awareness and he’d have been out the door.

Dude... you know when top level positions are interviewed for, they are far less technical in nature. They aren't hiring an individual contributor.

Why hire Brinker and give him total control over football decisions if you're going to meddle and make decisions like this.    She's just like her dad if this story is true and there is litt

It's 1 of 32. It is going to attract a quality candidate. The bears fired Matt Eberflus midseason and hired Ben Johnson.    This whole notion of "no one is going to want the job" is bullshit

I thought yesterday I was entry level and that was the worst? Will I be upper management bean counter tomorrow?

Capitalism is great! Clearly it’s faulty. This is a league filled to the brim with old boys and nepo babies. A lot more landmines.

They were clearly okay with him being inexperienced at calling games or managing the game in general. I wonder if they will tweak some questions on game theory to account for it? Hell they might not even think that was an issue and that he simply was overwhelmed. We'll never know because they won't kill him in the press.

Not to mention silver spoon babies inheriting daddy's privately held company and taking over supreme executive function despite having no experience or knowledge.

The answer to your question is likely that it simply hasn't been customary to vet NFL HC candidates in that way. I suspect that given the resumes most candidates sport, it's assumed that they are at least competent in the areas you mention. I saw someone else say this but perhaps it would be wise to divert from conventional thinking at least when it comes to guys with as little experience managing an NFL team as Callahan.

So he’s the Will Levis of HC’s.  Lasted about the same amount of time, so yeah, that checks out.

This is the exact thought I had when I read that comment. Levis being that bad surprised me too though not as much because we had plenty of college tape to see his flaws in.

It should be noted that Arthur Smith is the exact opposite of that.

He probably did.  But Arthur was hired as a defensive quality control coach  aka the guy who breaks down film.  He's come a long way on his own since then.
