Stillman brought up a good point today. If Sneed gets suspended even one game for violating the personal conduct policy (likely and no legal conviction would be needed), all the guarantees in his contract go away. Meaning the Titans could cut him immediately, and not only would they not be on the hook for the $30m in guarantees over the next two years, but he would have to pay them back the $12m signing bonus they gave him last year! Basically they could get completely out of the deal, only paying him his $9m base salary last year. We still lose the pick, but that makes it easy to cut bait and use the money elsewhere if the current regime doesn’t see him as a fit.

Breer suggested he may wind up back in KC if that happens.

PK didnt think he was going to lose any time to suspension as of this afternoon fwiw

They'll release or trade him next offseason regardless - he's on borrowed time here now imo.

This is when football experts get canned so often in the NFL.  They overdraft quarterbacks when they do not have one and let guys with elite traits drop.  Reminds me of what Adams did in the 1965 draft with Namath.

It's well documented that Namath told the AFL he'd only play in NY and the AFL was about to enter the first year of their NBC TV contract adding a ton of revenue to the league.   That in turn allowed them to compete with the NFL for the top talent.  Putting Namath, the biggest fish at the time, in the largest TV market in America was instrumental in the success of the league and getting the eventual merger.  Adams was complicit in making that happen for the betterment of the league just like he was when he loaned the Jets (then Titans) money to keep them afloat early on in the AFL.

Quote

he 1965 AFL Draft actually took place on November 28, 1964. before all the college games had ended. You couldn’t sign a player legally until he was finished playing his college career. The Jets new that. The Jets didn’t care.

First they had to draft Joe Namath, no easy trick because the Jets didn’t have the first pick. They had the fourth pick in the draft. Now no one is saying who. but the word got to Joe about the interest and the money he could make in New York. Joe was from Beaver Falls Pennsylvania, and played football in Alabama. He really didn’t know anything about New York.

The Oilers had traded with the Broncos so they now owned the first two picks in the 1965 AFL Draft. It just so happens that the head coach on the Houston Oilers was none other than Sammy Baugh, the Titans/Jets first coach. Baugh recalls the events of what happened, “We had the rights to him (Namath) but he told us he wouldn’t play in Houston. He said I’m not playing anywhere unless I play in New York. So the Jets traded us the rights to Tulsa QB Jerry Rhome and we traded them the rights to Namath.”
