Blaine Bishop eloquently stated today that the modern NFL coach today has to be an empathetic leader, counseling, supporting development, as that is what today's athlete are used to and want.. He also said we need to build a team that was fast, fit , tough , and smart to run the schemes Calli wants.. Calli wants to outsmart the other team , not just out physical them, according to Bishop.

I like Troy A.  He must be getting old because he really tells fans what happened.  He explains late throws, points out there's plenty room in the pocket.  Just watching the pass to the TE Hockenson you think he threw it behind him.  Troy took time to explain why SD threw it to that spot.  Either that or the read Troy the riot act.

The team had a terrible year, can we all stop trying to pretend vrable was the reason why the elite team was good and when he had to make do with less they sucked as well...

If you want to cry about standards and why everyone should be fired, you have absolutely no ground to stand on asking for mr 9-7 back. His only good time as a coach was ridding the back of a hof running back and qb on an absolutely crazy streak no1 saw coming.

was Vrabel a top coach? I’m not sure what defines top coach. Some would define this as a guy who made the team perennial contenders, others might say the ability to get the team to play above its talent level. 
 

was Callahan 90% as capable? Last year, no. Can he be more going forward? TBD

 

Bottom line. Vrabel was right on some things and had some good moments but the team was perfectly justified to move on and his last two years were not very good. 
 

Callahan was bad last year but he was a rookie coach and there are some real reasons for optimism. 
 

Is the team headed in the right direction? Until they start winning games and stop firing major decision makers every year, the answer to that has to be no.

I wont speak onto the teams overall direction or even Callahan, this is all separate to the vrabel discussion and while I am not lighting a torch atm I can see while you would be there. 

 

The vrable stuff however just seems funny to me. We were competive is all you want? So if we lost ever game this year by less than 3 you would be ok with losing?

Vrabel was a good defensive coach and in general.  He's not a good offensive coach, but Callahan was every bit as bad and was terrible in every other area.
