Defensive Head Coaches Best for Titans

It's time for us to get real about who we are and what we are.  Those 8-8 Oilers beat the hell out of teams.  Some of them would knock the hell out of players a yard out of bounds or way late, dgaf.  They played hard violent football.  They went to the Super Bowl.

We hobbled along after that bunch left, until JR/Vrabel.  Seven playoff games.  We won three playoff games!  We got to the AFCCG!  Defense.  Face the facts.  No top Offensive minded coach is going to come here.  Program in decline.  Owner embarrasses GM by firing him after a loss and cans Vrabel leaving the team with a GM who has been demoted after one season.  Chad Brinker is running the show now.

They grab a guy the very first day of in-person interviews.   #1 Top Candidate?  NOT. They could tell from the video interviews they didn't have a shot at the best.  Who wants to come behind Vrabel?   Deal w/AAS.  And good grief!  Look at the QB.  YIKES!!  Everybody wants the offensive minds.  There are always a couple of Top DC's available also.  JRob/Vrabel had two OC's to become HC's.  TWO!  We'll have to see how many teams come calling for 2024 Titans OC's to be HC's?

We stand a better chance getting a top coach from the other side of the ball.

It's "we" when we win, and it's "they" when they lose.  I thought everybody understood this.

History doesn’t repeat but it does rhyme. Which means if we want to be successful we need a defense first head coach, an exciting athletic black QB (or a boring white guy on his third or fourth team), and a HOF running back.

So… we promote denard Wilson, draft shadeur, and trade up for the Boise state running back…

Not exactly.  There are not that many coaches who are remarkably better than the rest.  I mean guys who can coach a team and get everybody to buy into what he's trying to do.  There just are some that are better at the job than others.  If the top 10 have two DC and you are not a top destination, maybe you could take that DC.  You get a top coach who understands the game and can transfer that energy/understanding of the game into his team.  The problem is when they win, they lose OC's.

Do you think Smith will get another team?  Or was he part of something special that was going on with the Titans?  Matt LaFleur?  LaFleur is a different story.  He came here a future HC.  People hate(blinds them) JRob, but hiring Vrabel and LaFleur at the same time was special.

If you want to get something like Mcnair you go with ward. Lots of flash, some problems and clutch for days(thay you mainly see because he screwed up already).

I know a lot of fans didn't like Vrabel.  I liked winning.  Are all the little stories that are coming out true?  So Vrabel did this in 18', and this in 20', and in 22' he blah, blah.  They don't want fans to look at his won-loss record.  What kind of budget and support structure did JRob have around him?  Kid starts his NFL career jumps from scout to director of player personnel to GM at 40yo.  He and MV had the second best winning stretch of Titans football.

I always wonder about the support he had compared to the support the Chiefs, Patriots, 49ers, Eagles, Ravens and other franchises who stay at the top of their divisions.  Go look at the Titans front office front office and compare it to the Ravens front office.

The franchise value rose $900,000,000 last year.  You have to be willing to put something in.  You are competing with organizations who do everything to win.

If they draft Sanders I will no longer be a Titans' fan while he is here.

You liked winning regular season games a little over half the time.  He coached 99 games here and only 2 playoff wins in 6 years here.

I liked Vrabel and think he's got a ton of great coaching attributes.  That said, he had a lot of chronic issues that he showed no real ability to fix - OL play, predictability on offense, consistently injured teams. and an overall stubborness to evolve.  At the end, he wanted out anyway and pretty much forced AAS to make a move.

Callahan may turn out to be a dud hire (it sure looks that way so far).  It happens but that doesn't erase all of the stuff that led to the regime change.

Yup, the grass is always greener works both ways. Right now its a wasteland so the lemmings are screaming for the weeds and hitchhikers we just left.

for what it's worth ..... y'all stop saying "WE" (nor us)
there is no "WE"
unless you are employed by the Titans in some capacity, they are a "THEY" (them or 'the Titans')

And what did we do the six years before JRob and Vrabel?  I'm not actually saying they had to keep both or either of them.  The problem is who are they capable of getting?  Well run organizations don't fall all apart when they make changes.  I think they have management structures that help prevent disasters, but instead transition more smoothly.
