Exactly. Newsome checks a lot of boxes and I think has been working hard to set himself up for it - taking more and more moderate/conservative positions against his state reps.

 

But he will always equal liberal Cali to too many.  And there are a LOT of people in the middle of America who... let's just say, don't really get out.  To them he might as well be from Hell.

There are a lot of people everywhere who don't really get out. The majority of people, wherever they're from, are pretty much born, live, and die in the same city. I'm sure plenty of people in all these blue, "cultured" cities think rural states/towns are all just a varied version of Deliverance.

To piggyback on this is that they didn’t realize how big the inflation issue would be .  It’s the economy stupid .  And rightly or wrongly, my eggs costing 6x more as opposed to 5-7 years ago resonates on a universal level more than whatever explanation the Democrats could come up with.

 

I had a close relative tell me that he would have voted for Trump because gas was lower under him (probably due to the pandemic etc).

There will be a big primary for 2028...

 

Harris was hard to push aside since she was the VP.

In hindsight, Biden should have said he wasn't running well before the primaries and there should have been a real primary.

 

Still, there has been a global backlash against incumbents and more populist politicians have been ousting them. Do you actually think someone (WHO?) would have won?

 

I feel like we need to see the final margins before we say a different candidate would have won.

A lot of people I knew who voted for trump say they were against isreal and the Dems not stopping it and trump talking a big game saying he’d end the war there and in Ukraine is what motivated them to vote for him.
