Stop me if this sounds dumb BUT. What if we played Sweat on 1st and 3rd downs rather than 1st and second? This way we can take advantage of his run stopping ability on 1st, then he gets a blow, then he comes back on the field pretty fresh to take advantage of his pass rushing ability on third. Obviously if second looks like a passing down you keep him in then and possibly take him off on 3rd. Highly unlikely and I'm not sure if any player has ever been used like this but just a thought that popped into my head. Could be a creative way to maximize this player's skill set at least until he gets in good enough shape to play all 3 downs.

The way the NFL works now, you get your best rushers in on 3rd down. So you kick one of the base EDGE or DE's in. That would be more of a concern than the snaps total which will be limited anyway.

I get what you're saying. My scenario is assuming they feel he's one of the best pass rushers and provides that crucial interior push on 3rd down. When he's fresh he completely collapses the pocket. For me, Sweat succeeding, at least initially, is about maximizing the snaps that we can get out of him rather than the gross number of snaps. It might be helpful to employ creative thinking.

Sweat is not going to be in on every 3rd down, but he’s going to rotate in and out. They aren’t automatically taking him off the field as if he’s just some run stuffing NT

Having him run off the field will gas that man lol.

I do think there's a point though that they will want him in some pass rushing packages. We lost Autry. Key can move inside sometimes. Are we going to play Sebastian-Day over Sweat? I doubt that's the plan. He wasn't drafted as a 2 down run stuffer like Irish said. We literally turned down a 2nd rounder and extra pick for the kid.
