Jamalisms
They want a pause but not a ceasefire? Beyond rhetoric about why they'd stop for a period of time ... the distinction is the amount of time they're stopping for and what happens to trigger a restart? Pause for humanitarian stuff means restart after that's done. Restart after ceasefire results from failed negotiations or something?

Seems an entirely rhetorical and political distinction to me
Jamalisms
I'm sure Humanitarian Pause sounds better to Israel than Ceasefire.

But there has to be a consistent push for humanity to do better. However, bad actors always seem to find new means to barbaric ends. This has been repeated through thousands of years. Tough answer, to your point, in these regards, but it's perfectly OK to be very disappointed with Israel in this regard while also being disgusted with Hamas. I agree with Israels choice to retaliate. However, I knew what that meant, which did suck. They couldn't ignore it or it would happen again and again. However, once they went the route they went, I knew that this would happen. It happens in wars. There are no nice wars and being nice costs lives. I know the gloves come off, and humans will be the dark side of humans during war. You will see humanity being amazing during wars, but the horrors of war overshadow it. We live in a time where everything is warped. It doesn't make sense. From small things like arguing online, to seeing people toss humanity to the side for their temporary satisfaction. (That's another thread though) I pay attention because like many, I have a hard time turning my heads away from atrocities. Why would anyone click any link the you know is going to show something bad? It's a morbid curiosity. That being said, nothing that is done would surprise me other than something drastic like a nuke going off. Israel could bomb the south side of Gaza and kill 10000 people, but I would not be surprised. Horrified? Yes. Shocked? No It's war It just sucks on so many levels IsntLifeFunny
El Guapo
Has anyone considered that Hamas deliberately uses civilian buildings to hide their fighters?

Yeah there is. Isreal has already admitted it over and over again.

Guest
It's interesting. I've been trying to take in a lot of diverse perspectives on this, but also within my friends group I have people I perceive to be very smart with strong opinions that differ so drastically yet are rhetorically functionally the same, from a philosophical stand point functionally the same, the same arguments from the context of morality--citing things like retaliation and defense and loss in the same way. It feels both obvious and impossibly obscure. The way twitter, social media in general, has created these rhetorical landscapes in which we operate with a precarious new kind of illiteracy, moved as if in a river of emotion---a sweeping generalization functioning as a grand pronouncement of truth accompanied by a video clip that is very real, and another, and another. There's an immediacy that is both authentic and dangerously dishonest. Caught in this current, you can justify almost anything.
