Hamas doesn’t want civilians dead, they just want to use the civilians as human shields. That historically kept Israel from attacking them (because of international pressure). Israel no longer cares about those human shields in the wake of Hamas' attack. They only care about killing Hamas. And anyone in the way is collateral damage. They only care about killing Hamas. And anyone in the way is collateral damage. They're resolute but messaging has been callous and casualties have been fairly high. It's a bad combo and, politically, they probably needed to do more with tone. It's 100% losing Israel the public relations war. Pushback will only grow and I increasingly think that's appropriate. They sure seen to be erring on the side of DGAF and my early fears seem like they've maybe even been surpassed. Not sure what the fallout will be but it could be significant.
