Jamalisms
Twitter information is algorithmically promoted, targets certain people and plays on emotions and biases ... and comes in constant drips and drops. Social media is an echo chamber in general but then this stuff comes in an addictive format and with wartime information we're emotionally attached to it and information is even more likely to be manipulatively cultivated and presented. It's like a perfect recipe for hubris in the form of thinking you're too smart to get taken in. Some people don't even want information questioned if there's actual cause cited. They just want the information and damn your desire for accuracy. Verification of accounts doesn't really exist anymore and journalism is dead. You don't know who is behind a given account and all you can do is scan some tweets and then go by follow count. If those look good, maybe it's good ... but that's such a low bar. It's a really interesting time of transition and I think we, society collectively, are failing to navigate it well. We're basically backdooring ourselves into propaganda. oldschool

A pause would be to continue evacuating civilians and to bring in aid with the full understanding the end result was the continued movement to surround and occupy. Biden, Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and Secretary of State Antony Blinken — who departed Thursday for Israel with a message on protecting civilian lives — have all explicitly pressed the case in recent private conversations with the Israelis, telling them that eroding support will have dire strategic consequences for Israel Defense Forces operations against Hamas. Behind the scenes, U.S. officials also believe there is limited time for Israel to try to accomplish its stated objective of taking out Hamas in its current operation before uproar over the humanitarian suffering and civilian casualties — and calls for a ceasefire — reaches a tipping point." Jamalisms
More balanced coverage (elsewhere) of Israel's war in Gaza following Hamas terror attack is driving Jewish viewers to Fox News, where the coverage is overwhelming pro-Israel. We've seen similar phenomenon in this very thread where people have cancelled subscriptions to the NYT and defend any source as acceptable, so long as the message runs in the direction of perceived events, regardless of verification or eventual accuracy. If the tone matches but the details don't - that's argued as fine. There has been pretty strong rejection here of the attacks on the refuge camp, however. https://www.yahoo.com/news/jewish-viewers-refuge-fox-news-174918953.html
IsntLifeFunny
An Israeli strike on a Gaza ambulance convoy has killed 15 people, Palestinian medics said Saturday, spurring concerns for health workers' safety as Israel accused Hamas of using the vehicles to transport fighters... The Palestinian Red Crescent Society (PRCS) said in a statement one of its ambulances had been struck "by a missile fired by the Israeli forces", about two metres (6.5 feet) from the entrance to Al-Shifa hospital in Gaza City. https://news.yahoo.com/chief-shocked-israeli-strike-gaza-185257161.html
IsntLifeFunny
Israel has every right to protect their people, territory, and greater interests. They do not have a right to do this though. This is murder. Two wrongs do not make a right, and no matter how terrible what happened on October 7th was, continuing to hit these kind of targets does nothing but increase the risks to their own security. The only thing that’s going to win the war is the group with the most technologically advanced weaponry, ammunition, and moral force of will is going to beat the group with weak Iranian and old Soviet weaponry being wielded by terrorist militants scurrying around in tunnels and alleys. Hamas must unconditionally surrender themselves for execution before more innocent people die. Palestinians must rise up and capture or kill Hamas leaders to protect their population. That’s like saying the colonial civilians needed to capture and turn over George Washington to the redcoats to stop the war. Palestinians see Israel as their oppressors and Hamas is fighting against them. Not that they necessarily love Hamas, but they aren’t going to side with Israel and just go back to the status quo of being oppressed and be happy to live that way.
