Why does everyone have to be morons because they want to live differently?

There are a bunch of incredibly intelligent people who live in cities—doctors, engineers, business people—the absolute best of us. There are also the dregs of society who live in cities—the homeless (mental illness, drug addicts, etc), the criminals, and the depraved—you don't see much of that in small-town America.

On the other hand, people who live in suburbs and rural areas have a bunch of beautiful, well-crafted areas that are well-run, everyone gets along, and life is generally good. Good, honest, hardworking people who mean what they say leave their doors open at night because they trust their neighbors and can make a deal with a handshake. You can breathe when you walk outside, and no one honks at you the second the light turns green. There's no trash on the ground or graffiti on the side of the local small business.

Yes, there are some ignorant, redneck idiots in those rural areas, and there are some depraved, ignorant people in cities. Most people are just people, trying to get on with their day. How about we talk about the individuals who suck and stop lumping entire populations into our generalizations. We're all Americans. We're supposed to be on the same side.

I agree. My insult comment was really only return.

I have my preference and both (or all three counting suburban) rural and urban have advantages/disadvantages, and people that are contributors and succubi.

a big step in getting closer to the same page is to group people economically vs racially when making policy.

I don't think we should group people at all but rather respect their individual rights to live the way they want to live and be the people they want to be. There is nothing wrong with being black, brown, or white. There is nothing wrong with being rich or being poor. The problems come when we group people into buckets and then pit one bucket against the other.

We need to persuade instead of coerce. Judge people based on their individual character, not by whether they play on my team, whatever that team might be. Our laws and our systems should have very few guiding principles. Is this a universally agreed-upon good? If not, don't make a law about it and let society decide for themselves. Will this law/institution/judgment make us (as a society) more or less free to live the way we as individuals want to, or is it "my" version of good enforced by a gun?

Almost all objections in politics stem from an unwillingness to allow individuals to decide what is right for themselves or a desire to instill what I believe to be good, even if it takes freedom from another. The problem is good from one person's perspective and is reprehensible through the eyes of another. If one side gains control and forces the other side to live by "THEIR" good, we will all lose.

Just my two cents.

Everyone is an individual and should be treated as such, but we all naturally fit into a vast number of demographic buckets. That’s just reality.

I saw a thread on twitter the other day about how Texas is planning to incorporate electoral voting at the county level to box out Dems and these morons actually believe the US is overwhelmingly red. They don't understand the concept of population centers.... its sad.

A 2020 Trump campaign aide and two attorneys who did work for the campaign have been indicted on forgery charges related to the so-called fake electors scheme to undo President Joe Biden’s electoral victory in that state.

The charges against former campaign aide Mike Roman and attorneys Kenneth Chesebro and Jim Troupis are the last in a series of criminal prosecutions related to former President Donald Trump’s attempt to reverse his loss to Biden in the 2020 election.

Years back on another forum , repubs were repeating this like it was the cure for all wounds -- create false state-level super majorities driven by rural voters and purposefully usurp and minimize the voting power of its citizens who choose to live in the city metroplex.

The only reason they're going after Fauci, just like the only reason they're going after Garland today is because they want to make Trump happy.  They're scapegoating Fauci because they think Covid helped Biden win the election and of course we know about their gripes with Garland.
