No one is asking him not to hold as a conservative merely because of Trump. He doesn't seem to comprehend that conservatism is now Trump in all ways, shapes, and forms. It's a philosophy based on hate and vindictiveness. reo, and begooode

ctm
Former President Trump unveiled new details about his “special announcement” at Mar-a-Lago next week, which is widely expected to launch his 2024 presidential campaign, even as the former president faces pushback from within the Republican Party. Trump confirmed that he will be holding a “special announcement” at Mar-a-Lago on Nov. 15 in a press release on Thursday night. https://news.yahoo.com/trump-hold-special-announcement-mar-031835134.html OILERMAN

ctm
Trump isn't going away. He's wounded politically and legally and it will be total war with DeSantis. He's probably more dangerous and vindictive than ever. Two scenarios: 1, He wins the nomination 2, He loses the nomination but severely wounds DeSantis in the process and may even withold his support in the general. reo, and ChemEngr79

ctm
Republicans made their Faustian bargain with Trump. They had several chances to dump him. It should be the off ramp the party needs but will they take it? One thing is for sure, he won't go quietly. ctm
Republicans are projected to win 220 House seats, plus or minus a handful. I don't see how K. McCarthy gets 218 votes for speaker on 1/3/23. His strongest point is that he has current opposition. But that doesn't mean he gets 218. This is setup for either chaos or a crippled McCarthy who has to make too many compromises to be effective.

There is some buzz that the Dems could strike a deal with Cheney to be Speaker if they peel away 5 GOP votes. With the margin going to be +-3, there is no room for error with McCarthy. He'll either have to promise everything to the freedom caucus like reinstating the motion to vacate the chair which fucked Boehner or his dreams of Speaker are gone. This is all of course premature as the House could still go the Dems if the CA Mail ballots are good. We probably won't know for weeks.
