I'm curious if Whisenhunt was truly our #1 target all along. Maybe the FO didn't feel like waiting on Quinn for another 1-2 weeks and potentially losing out on Whiz in the process.

Either way, gotta say I'm glad to see our FO reach out and take what they want from the teeth of the Lions.

With Lovie Smith and Whisenhunt being the supposed top two coveted coaches this off season, we gotta be pretty stoked we landed him.

Anyone who doesn't understand this is a massive upgrade to Munch isn't paying attention.

So about 80% of the forum was happy with the hiring of Whisenhunt...and the guy was a total disaster. Interestingly enough, roughly the same percentage of fans are unhappy with the Mularkey hire.

I think it's a great hire.

I think the best pro-Wisenhunt argument is this:

He took the ARIZONA CARDINALS to a Super Bowl!

The Cards are probably the worst organization in NFL history and he got them that close to being the champs. Yes, he went down hill when Kurt Warner (a QB he picked out of the recycle bin) retired, but no coach was winning with the QBs he had to work with after Warner.

We need a good QB no matter who we hired. At least we hired a guy who proved he can do it with the right tools.

He also WON a Superbowl as an OC. He only won cause he had the right tools? Lol isn't that what we expect coaches to do? We know he can win only if he has the right tools is about as moronic as you can get. He can WIN. Look up his record..and im not jus talkin win/loss. Look up how many times hes been to playoffs as OC/HC. How many coaches were available that can say that? Ok. Stfu

He only won cause he revived Kurt Warners career. He only won cause he had Big Ben. He only won cause he had a great receving corps. He only had that winning defense cause of his secondary. He only made the playoffs cause he had Phillip Rivers. Hell im digging how many times ye curmudgeons gotta say he won & made the playoffs before you try to insult him. Hell bring on the criticisms if playoffs superbowls and beast teams come with em! Cause all ive seen as a fan is 1 fuckin miracle that got cut short by a yard...

I'd also point out that Whisenhunt has shown an ability to be very flexible in playcalling.

In Pitt, they went 15-1 in 2004, and then won the Superbowl in 2005 -- both years Pitt lead the NFL in rush attempts.

As HC in AZ and the 3 seasons with Warner as QB, they ranked #2 (twice), and #3  in pass attempts.

Those are wildly different numbers. I'm very interested to see what OC he brings in. If anything, he's shown he's can play a run-attack, playaction style offense and be successful (good for Locker), but if he gets a premier QB, he can also open the game up and field a more offensive-minded team.

Caldwell won superbowl as OC.

I don't really see how any hire could have been considered much better, but there were some options which seemed genuinely worse.

How it happened was pretty crazy. The Titans just can't seem to do anything normal lately - even their HC hiring process has to end with shock for the wider NFL community.

It's not an exciting hire but that's ok, most exciting HC hires don't stay that way. Part of me wanted the Titans to roll the dice on more of an unknown but I feel with Whisenhunt that the Titans have improved the coaching staff situation from this point a month ago.

but really what could anyone of done in that sad situation.....

I agree with sitting players. I phrased my post poorly.

Whiz didn't start to lose players because he was sitting them. He started to lose players by the way he handled the QB situation.
