I wonder if we're going to find that a lot of our "OL problems" were really QB problems.

The OL is and has been an issue since 2020. Our QB play has affected that with 2022 Tannehill, Levis, and rookie Cam, but our OL has been bottom of the barrel for a long time now.

Welp there it is lol

lol PK posted AI slop and had to delete it    it was a graphic of the 30 most important titans at training camp this year and feature notable titans such as Jared Verse, Jaylon Johnson and N

It would be pretty ideal if Latham is making strides to becoming the OT he was drafted to be and Carmona is a solid starting rookie.

I think it started w/ Vrabel micromanaging the OL. I remember stories from OL where they'd have plans for how to handle a pass rush and then Vrabel would come in and throw it out the window and tell them to do vastly simplier things. And then Callahan comes in and all we hear is about how he's teaching things they'd never seen before but that's another topic.

I think that's flipped but in a general sense, yes Gray and James are probably the OLBs

Will: Gray

Mike: Hill

Sam: James

Gray was the ILB in the 3-4 w/ Barton iirc which makes him more of the Will in a 4-3.

My thinking is even though gray is a little undersized that williams has a better background for the will. Let Gray do what he did last year and attack the LoS while williams plays the hybrid LB/S role that is more similar to the will.

That and Robinson and Vrabel prioritized run blocking over pass blocking then the Callahan's wanted earth movers instead of dancing bears to go alongside a scheme that was pretty much all vertical routes.

That's going to be the difference in this entire system tbh. The line is doing the attacking. The LBs are going to be doing more reading and reacting. I won't be surprised if people think Gray has an off year this year b/c of it.

James will be asked to play up tighter on the TEs where Gray will be in space more. So James' DB history could probably suit him well at SAM as sort of a bigger box safety.

Not bringing in legitimate competition for Slye in the off season was a mistake. It was obvious last year he was at best inconsistent. Now they're looking for someone off the scrap heap.

Statistically Slye was one of the best kickers in the league last year.  It makes sense why they decided to bring him back without competition.  Obviously he’s struggling now but based on last year it makes sense.

Or more scheme problems. Long developing routes with limited or no outlets was a frequency here.

They're going to play Nickel 80+% of the time. Gray will likely start at the Will since there is only a MLB and WLB on the field in Nickel. The Sam is a situational base set that will only get about 15% of snaps. It would be a complete waste to put Gray at SAM. MAYBE they shift him over and let Williams play WLB in those sets.

Williams isn't big enough to play the SAM. He would get washed out constantly.

He's listed at 6'4 242. Average SAM is 6'2-6'4 240-255 so he's on the low end but not terrible.

Looking at comparables:

Isaiah McDuffie: 6'1 227

Zack Baun: 6'3 225

Frankie Luvu: 6'3 235

Andrew Van Ginkel 6'4 242

And he's listed as the SAM in most depth charts.

And on top of that Gray is more of a WIL since he came into the league. I doubt they move him.

Gray is the primary fear in the scheme change tbh. I'm afraid the switch won't be good for him and it'll ask him to go away from what made him play so well last year.

I still say QBs have checks for most of those or the QB needs to get off his primary read quicker. QBs tend to hunt for that big play too much.

Now w/ Vrabel.. that was true b/c he'd have 2 man routes a lot lol

Regardless of how well he plays his production likely takes a hit since he wont be the only competent LB on the field any more while also being shifted away from the center lf the field.

I'm just ready for all the calls for how he's regressed b/c ppl won't get how they completely changed the scheme on him lol

I still think I'm correct about how it plays out, but maybe I'm wrong about it. Either way, the starters need to not include Barton.
