They can't be stopped but they can be slowed immensely if Democrats retake Congress. The real swing will be 2028 and if Dems can get the Executive and Legislature and pass meaningful reform including packing the courts to reverse Citizens United and several other cases that have hollowed out elections system and made them for profit. It's an uphill battle, but it isn't over with and some type of civil war isn't necessary to put the train back on the tracks. Now as to permanent damage to US stature, yeah that's irreversible. Having the House alone means oversight powers and the ability to prevent Republicans from passing any crazy budget they want with 0 Democratic votes. A senate majority in addition means being able to block any Trump appointment (among other things). No midterm victory will erase Trump’s executive branch power.
