Is he ahead of Wandale or Dike in the slot?

the thinking- and it makes sense - is pretty clearly that the pecking order is :

x - Tate/ Ayo

Z - Ridley/ Dike

y - Wandale / Restrepo

When you add in Proche / Kinsey /oliver /udfa ...only Kinsey and the UDFA would directly be competing with Restrepo for the slot/y backup and he lost to him last year.

All that said, this offense is kind of position agnostic when it comes to WR. These guys move around a ton and traditional XYZ slotting doesn't hold as much water in Dabolls scheme. So Dike could backup 3 spots. Wandale could run a good bit of z and y. Even the #1 receiver is out at all three spots.

So more likely the best 5-6 make the 53 roster rather than "starter and backup" for each spot.

No idea where this nugget fits so thought it might worth starting a thread for all Titans non HC offseason discussion.   This was meant to happen last offseason but Sweat never showed up so

Who will we draft? The answer has been there the whole time.

That’s a lot of hooch

Dike is the top backup for both Ridley and WanDale. The 3 of them are locks for the Z and slot.

At X they are going to have Tate backed up by either Ayomanor or Oliver.

The 6th WR (presumably they keep 6) is very much up in the air. But the loser between Ayomanor and Oliver is the odds on favorite. The UDFAs (I’m including XR here) will compete but my guess is they just keep 1 or even 2 slots on PS.

see my edit I posted before you posted this. It just depends if they go a more traditional slotting of players at each spot with a backup.

I hardcore disagree that Oliver will beat out Ayo though. He's done nothing and is an Oman favorite that has swayed people but the production isn't there.  Even in college he had less yards at a much smaller school.

Sure, it's possible he could figure in, but Borg drafted Ayo and he played a ton more. Oliver is and has been just as much of a PS guy as anyone else on the bottom end of the roster

yeah I was rooting for X but I don't think its that simple in terms of the depth.  X chances of earning a long term role on teh titans was always hard and a long shot.. and it jsut got more difficult and less likely.  It took crazy injuries last year for him to get on the field.

I wouldnt do it by thse tight roles as Daboll moves guys around. I think it starts

Ridley

Wondale

Dike

Ayo

Tate

But some competitions are like Cam last year-  some guys are nearly guaranteed to win the battles unless they screw up so that it probably ends up

Tate

Wondale

Ridley

Dike

Ayo.

Everyone else is on the deep outside looking in and hoping for an injury. In a year when we don't see crazy injuries, that should be all we need.

Dike is most likely the game day backup for both slot and the Z, where Restrepo would be the reserve. But if we're going strictly by role and Restrepo is on the 53 he's the backup slot. That's what I meant by 2nd string.

We are desperate to have a good wr room. I was pulling for the guy but I want better wrs

I get that. During mock season I was constantly having us take 2 receivers. Restrepo would have been a PSer at best in that scenario or finding other opportunities.

I have no outlandish expectations for Restrepo. All I ever do is push back on the narrative that he's a bum, unworthy of even considering. It's emptyheaded, wrong, and based on an injury-impacted and limited/flawed mode of speed testing. Anyone who watched the guy in college should understand that.

He has a more difficult path to making the 53 than he did last year, but I'm not relying on bad pe-draft testing and the judgements of an incompetent coaching staff that was shown the door en masse to automatically discard him.

Daboll’s desire for speed makes Restrepo even more unlikely to make the 53 than last year

Does he desire guys who run fast or does he desire guys who run open? Do I need to break out that video again going into rhe weeds of what speed actually is? Ask all the guys Restrepo burned in college on jukes and change of direction how fast he is?

Speed isn't just about top gears. If it were then John Ross should be on his way to Canton by now.

yeah it's pretty clear to me that these are the top 5 though I won't order them yet as rookies develop a ton from year 1 to 2, rate is a rookie, and Ridley has his own issues to deal with.

Ayo getting beat out would be shocking to everyone including Borg. If he went to the practice squad, he would get picked up immediately.  You don't give up on year 2 4th round WRs that started as rookies unless they get arrested.

if that's the case, then it's completely

hopeless for the new UDFA that everyone is salivating over. Who is slower and older than X

He ran a faster 40 than Restrepo

Regardless, I think both are unlikely to make the 53.

I’m sure he values getting open, too. But speed tends to be a priority, all other things being equal.

You're right, my bad. I saw his 40 "score" at 4.86 but his actual was 4.6.  Montgomery's SS and 3 cone were significantly worse though.

Montgomery has him on ht and straight line speed.

Restrepo has him on everything else RAS -wise and also including production, school size, chemistry with cam and he's significantly younger.

If we get to the position specific argument, Montgomery has proche/ Oliver / dike / Ridley to fight at his most natural spot.

both these are likely practice squad guys.

Even with me railing about ayo being ass last year I havge zero doubts ayo is tates backup come week 1.

Edit: unless some wild shit happens
