Callahan is essentially fired and they're going to let him ride it out.    This is exactly like Brinker taking over the GM duties Carthon's last season.    Callahan was hired to ca

This move...a non firing but stripping of authority....keeps AAS from being labeled impulsive again.

The funny thing is there wasn't an easier situation for Callahan to keep his job. They decision makers were publicly squashing expectations and talking about patience. He basically had a free pass. Al

Over the last few years defenses have also started rushing the passer way more on play action passes

The Colts are running PA on something like %45 of their drop backs, but a lot of it is followed by a boot or some form of moving the pocket

Likely because of this

This is absurd

Only if you are thinking about like 3rd and 30.

It gains as good or better in every scenario 10 yards and under... and LBs will move no matter when in the game you use it.

Then you agree the play calling is an issue.

I'm not going to pretend to know stuff I don't know as a casual fan. Remember you thought Mariota should call his own plays and Levis cemented at least two years.....

Here is what I'll say....

Callahan has been so obviously inept in terms of managing the games and knowing the rules it stands to reason that possibly carries over to calling plays.

But it's not the main issue and is way down the list of potential problems. It's not worth arguing about. The offense would still suck regardless of who calls the plays.

Not to this degree.  This is a historically terrible offense.  Their average yards per play is lower than any individual game from a year ago, when they objectively had less talent.

There have been many teams with talent issues.  But there have been very few who have displayed this level of ineptitude.

This is where we disagree. The team has been competitive in all 4 games. Momentum is a real thing, especially for a young team. A better play caller gets Ward into a rhythm and uses PA a massive amount.

That doesn't seem to be in the book.  Probably catering to Ward...

The weirdest part is they've been very successful with it when they use it. On a stagnant offense you woud think they might highlight one of the only things they've ran with any consistency in the passing game.

I agree.

I agree.

I think you're dead on about catering to Ward with the sets. I could speculate as to their reasoning, but the results speak for themselves so any justification is pointless. Ward looked really bad on Sunday and has been regressing. It isn't a huge sample size but certainly not the trend you want to see.
