Yes. I am comparing it to the START of last season, when I felt better about our WR group. DHop was still playing well, and Ridley seemed like he would complete that group well.

I’d say every position group is better this year other than RB, DL, and CB (all 3 are basically the same)

Hopkins might be comparable to Lockett.   Boyd was a zero and really anyone could replace him.

Well we don't have D Hop, Tyler Boyd, and Nick Westbrook-Ikine anymore.  They were arguably the top 3 receivers on paper last year.

But if Cam ends up being a great QB, he can make mediocre receivers look good and good receivers look great.

Hopkins is barely a shell of what he used to be, Tyler Boyd even less so, and NWI was JAG. I'll take the fresh legs and potential of what they have now.

Hopkins/Boyd is better than Jefferson/Lockett. We'll see how quickly Ayomanor and Dike can offset that.

Don't leave out Bryce Oliver..

This year is what drafing and developing WR's is like when you can see a player like Ayomanor showing a lot ..

Yeah, I think Special Teams last year was pretty much the worst in the league.  I don't have any metrics to prove it but it was one of the worst I've seen from the Titans/Oilers in decades.  It would take a miracle for this year to be worse than the last.

I dont have any hard numbers off hand but it was historically bad, being just last would have been a massive step up from what we were the first 10-14 weeks. However long i5 took for whats his name to have the press confrence where he said he thought they all knew what they were doing already.

There is a guy who does almost nothing but analytics on kick and pubt returns and ill see if i can find it on youetube but we were something like -200yards per game just from special teams.

My point with punter is that this time last year, we had Stonehouse, coming off two seasons of record setting long punts. Did he outkick his coverage? Sometimes...but his net was still good, and he could boom it. In hindsight, our STs was awful. It should be improved. I didn't rank STs...just PR/K together, and said same or worse. We'll see what happens. I HOPE they both improve, and I'm pretty sure our return game/coverage will...it almost has to.

Wow that's a great breakdown!

Changing the special teams coach will be definitely be an upgrade.

@Alcibiades I incorrectly assumed you meant to include Special Teams when you mentioned Punter/Kicker.

I ran into his youtube after stonehouse had his record setting rookie year, thought anyone who does a breakdown channel on st deserves a follow.

No worries. I get it. Our STs was awful...like historically bad. I'm not sure how to judge the players on that, especially when we literally saw our punter killed twice in one game due to blocking scheme...I think. I don't even know what was happening, but our coaches were at least part of the problem.

Are you referring to the Colts game in 2023?  It's hard to believe that the STs could get even worse after that, but they did

Ehhhh. I dont think either came down to scheme. It does still come down on the coach who didnt team them properly. But completely missing blocking assignments isnt a scheme issue.
