The flexibility point was still there at the time they were deciding to draft Latham. The options at LT vs RT heading into the offseason could also be a factor.

There is little doubt that when Latham was initially drafted they clearly hoped he would solidify the LT position. 

 

It didn't take long post season for Jim Wyatt to start dropping hints that Latham could be shifted back to RT and when combined with the later reveal of the pretty brutal reality check they handed Latham in his exit interview that finding a LT was a priority in March.

 

The positive thing is Latham seems to have taken the wake up call the right way and has shed a huge amount of weight and is giving himself the best chance to rebound at RT this season.

Aside from the fact he was overweight etc....

 

I posted early in the year they could consider a LT and move Latham back to RT, before it looked like the #1 pick was possible

Now, I don't know what Bowers would do for us, but it IS interesting that the teams with the two best TEs right now (KC and SF) are also contenders. Is that because of them, though? Well, Mahomes would make any TE look good, which is NOT a knock on Kelce. Kittle, OTOH...seems to make QBs look good. I think Bowers would be a weapon here, but I STILL think OT is more important.

For all of Kittle's talent, he would help Surrender Cobra look about as good as Ridley did.

I think it's relevant because they had to trade up for it. 9 other teams passed on him too, including the Titans who had a shit QB who had an Alex Smith CEILING. Titans drafted for need that year: Corey LOL Davis. They proceeded to draft needs and missed on great players the rest of that draft. 

 

Funnier than that is the previous year they traded out of the 1st pick and did the same dumb shit (drafting for need). They missed out on the below players for Conklin and additional picks. And they passed on one of the best tackles in the draft (probably because he smoked pot)

I am not going to argue about RT vs TE because they are both valued equally in the NFL.  So let’s not focus on this…focus on the fact that DEI leaves a legacy of failure.  That’s your real point!

Bringing up great pass catching TEs who were drafted late isn't the flex yall think it is. Those guys are the players that woke the NFL up to the idea that MAYBE the position was more valuable than they thought

Not really. Sure there are late round home runs for every position. But most of them you have a much better shot of hitting a homerun early. At TE you are not. 

 

Im not going to go threw every draft over the last 50 years but I would be shocked if more than half of the top tightends came in the first 2 rounds vs the last 4. 

 

Thats not normal for most positions.
