Idk man. I don't think we have the pass pro to make things easy for him. Maybe we fix the OL in the off-season but if recent history is any indication we won't. I think it starts with drafting someone like a Mac Jones...he can start for you but doesn't keep you from taking a QB with the first pic....then maybe you get the trade down that you are looking for. now you got extra pics and can maybe burn one on a QB you like later in the draft. of course a lot of moving parts to all of this so you just gotta be fluid. I think anyone bringing him in would be banking on a year with Sean Payton outside of the limelight helping him re-set as a player. titanskick8851 Posted January 23, 2025 Report Share Posted January 23, 2025 Wouldn't have an issue at all with them signing Wilson to compete and see if he has learned anything. I am a big believer that you need a vet QB, a reclamation project, and a draft pick at the spot and let them have best man wins through OTA, Minicamp, and Training Camp. One interesting thing is Wilson has largely been the 3rd QB all year, so he never even really surpassed Stidham. That is a little concerning to me. Darnold served as the #2 all year in SF for comparison. I think something like: Jimmy G / Zach Wilson / Draft Pick does make sense for this upcoming year. Good plan but Wilson was only cheap because he was still being paid so much by the Broncos and Fields did cost a draft pick which they said they want to accumulate. cenj Posted January 23, 2025 Report Share Posted January 23, 2025 There's no evidence Zach Wilson is better than Levis. And Levis is fucking awful. The issue with having 3 QBs on the roster is that snaps are limited. You can talk all you want about developing guys, but the starter is going to (or at least should) be getting most of the practice snaps, and the backup is getting whatever snaps are leftover. The 3rd string QB can run the scout team if competent, but it's not like all these QBs are getting equal development. It's another reason why nowadays those non 1st-round QBs rarely become starters. The vet or the 1st rookie gets the snaps and the attention. Teams simply don't commit to developing the other guys as much because they are not as financially invested, which means that backup needs either an injury to get more of a chance, or they need to show their ability pretty quickly to leapfrog the starter (which rarely happens because GMs do not like abandoning their QB investments).
