Trump is genuinely an idiot running the country. Like an extremely low IQ individual. Bush was dumb in his ways but this is another level. Fascinating to watch him with even less guard rails

The biggest grift is the fact the GOP explodes the deficit every time they gain control of congress and the Whitehouse. They want $4.5T worth of tax cuts for the wealthy. Guess who pays for that? the

In 2019, a group of now-former Tennessee politicians set up a fake printing company under a fictitious name....then spent the next year pitching and steering other lawmakers to use their shell company, setting up monthly taxpayer-funded payments for a fraudulent mailer service that didn't actually exist;   its sole purpose was to funnel money into the pockets of the organizers.

In some cases they used intimidation, coercion, and false identities to cajole and convince others to set up monthly payments to their fake mailer service.

Roughly a year and $150,000 later,  their elaborate and carefully orchestrated scheme was unraveled by the FBI, resulting in multiple arrests, convictions and prison sentences.

Today Trump issued presidential pardons to the scheme's organizers.    Because he's Making America Great Again!

Layoff announcements soared in October as companies recalibrated staffing levels during the artificial intelligence boom, a sign of potential trouble ahead for the labor market, according to outplacement firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas.

Job cuts for the month totaled 153,074, a 183% surge from September and 175% higher than the same month a year ago. It was the highest level for any October since 2003. This has been the worst year for announced layoffs since 2009.

“Like in 2003, a disruptive technology is changing the landscape,” said Andy Challenger, workplace expert and chief revenue officer at the firm. “At a time when job creation is at its lowest point in years, the optics of announcing layoffs in the fourth quarter are particularly unfavorable.”

Make no mistake here.  I'm not accusing Trump of causing this problem.  Otoh, it's happening on his and republican's watch.  They are in charge.  It's their problem to deal with. So far.....not even an acknowledgement of the problem, much less a proposed solution.  When you are building a 300M ballroom and throwing a Great Gatsby party while people are getting laid off and Snap is being cut, it's no wonder that you get your asses handed to you by the voters.

AI induced higher electric bills are just now starting to hit as well. The electric grid is going to be overwhelmed by demand and if you live near one of the new data centers being construced.....good luck paying your bill.  This will only get worse as well.  Nothing from Washington about this......

as someone who has worked for PE owned companies the past 15 years, let me tell you the vast majority of the layoffs this year have jack shit to do with AI. Its company greed and the fact sales are down across nearly all sectors.

From the article:

Challenger reports the highest level of layoffs coming from the technology sector amid a time of restructuring due to AI integration. Companies in the sector announced 33,281 cuts, nearly six times the level in September.

Who am I supposed to believe? You or the people who collect the actual data for a living?

lol. Companies are lying and using it as cover; Mine does it as well!

Boards will use whatever cover they need to in order to cut costs. AI adoption has been a massive failure. You can't fix broken process or incomplete BI workflows with AI. There is a foundation required to leverage it and hardly any companies are doing the work required.

This article sums things up well.

I never said AI won't be transformative or alter the work force one day. I simply commented its been a massive failure to date and that companies are using it as an excuse to layoff workers even though they have infested billions and haven't seen a return to date. The entire world economy is over leveraged on AI right now. Look at what Sam Altman is out there saying. Look at the CEO of MSFT publicly stating he's sitting on billions worth of GPUs he can't bring online that will be obsolete in 12 months. Go read up on it instead of taking pot shots at me and twisting what I said.

"AI" does currently suck and has been overhyped and over-adopted for what it's currently capable of. I have no basis for claiming companies are or aren't cutting jobs because of "AI" but I do know a lot of "AI" adoption has been a complete waste of money.

If they're already cutting jobs just for corporate profits at this stage before AI even becomes realized just think what's going to happen over the next 5 years. It's going to be a bloodbath for coders and middle management.

AI will continue to take more jobs as infrastructure ramps up and they tailor it to do more specific tasks.

This isn’t really new as automation has been taking jobs forever. But this time around I don’t see how we are replacing all those jobs. People went from doing factory jobs to tech jobs and service work. Now AI is going to be taking those. What are people supposed to do?
