Democrats have a history of racism outside the South.   Start with Woodrow Wilson.   He segregated the federal workforce by race.  He championed eugenics.  He expressed his pride that no Black students were admitted at Princeton while he was President.   The Birth of a Nation was the first movie shown in the White House under Wilson.

 

Next you have FDR.  He famously sent Japanese US citizens to internment camps.   His first nominee to place on the Supreme Court was Hugo Black, a former klansman.   He created the FHA, which specifically denied insurance for homes in and around black neighborhoods.    He snubbed Jesse Owens after the olympics.  He refused to support federal antilynching legislation.    

 

Then we come to Lyndon Johnson.   It was during his time that Democrats came to realize promoting racism was not a good idea for politics.   When he nominated Thurgood Marshall, he said he appointed Marshall rather than a less well known black judge because "when I appoint a N word to the bench, I want everybody to know he is a N word."  He also stated that his plan for the Great Society was “to have them N word voting Democratic for the next two hundred years."   Prior to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, he never once supported civil rights legislation.

You didn't provide any facts concerning a shift in cultural attitudes and voter sentiment. Much like you do today, your predecessors felt that any progress that black people made would be at their expense and went to the side that was willing to slow that progress down as much as possible if not stop it completely. And yup, Lyndon Johnson was a bigot. Lincoln once said that if he could win the war without freeing a single slave he would. These men were not some ideal of equality but they each did something that was crucial in black people having a fighting chance in this country. Since then, your party has done everything they can to cast black people as lazy, degenerates that just want hand outs and are 100% the cause of their own problems. You then did the same with hispanic immigrants. Please spare me, you have no idea how the way you guys talk sounds to black people that haven't internalized the racism enough.

Btw, it's going to be absolutely hilarious in like 30 years when conservatives start claiming that they were the REAL party of immigrants and LGBTQ rights with a straight face. X is 100% a nazi-fest now. I've posted a few times how bland new accounts basically get bombarded with stuff like extremely racist anti-Indian (the country) content.

 

The problem the naive/stupid free speech people have is restricting this sort of stuff isn't so much about restricting free speech is it is about cultivating civil discussion and community that decent people would want to get involved in. What type of person wants to get involved in that?

Trump has been pro-LGBT for as long as I could remember.  I really don't care as long as people with penises don't use women's restrooms or locker rooms.  What you do in private is not my concern as long as it doesn't hurt anyone.

I don't think the Dems are racist.  They just need the votes.  It's political strategy.  

Why don't we give conservatives a try in urban areas for a decade and see if there's any change for better or for worse?   I know it's a pipedream at this point but would be interesting. 

I would say some things that can possibly help the lower class is school choice, financial education, incentives to break out of entitlements, and strict law enforcement. 

I say this as a minority that has mentored underprivileged kids in LA for over a decade.  Although my homeless outreach in DTLA has been within arms length, my experience with urban youth is pretty extensive.  Most of the kids that have serious issues either come from abusive homes (usually fathers) or majority do not have a father to begin with.  One of my youth kid's father (ex gang member) friended me on Facebook and his daughter was also "friends" with me.  That dude posted fully naked pictures of women he bedded on his page.  I could only imagine shit like that must be traumatizing for the kid.  Still wish I could shield that girl from that type of degeneracy but the best I could do is pretend I never saw that side of her father. Unfriended that asshole as soon as I could. 

If you guys have kids, please take good care of them and show them that they are loved and precious. Having a loving and consistent mother and father makes such a huge difference in their lives. I know I'm being corny as hell but I've seen the difference and I mean that sincerely.

Yes, Democrats in the south opposed both of those things. Conservative Democrats who all split with the party and ended up becoming Republicans in the post-Civil Rights era. It didn’t used to be 1 party that was overwhelmingly liberal vs another party that was overwhelmingly conservative like it is today.
 

Black people overwhelmingly support Democrats today because the modern era of the Democratic Party is pro-Civil Rights and is better for them while the Republican Party is anti-Civil Rights.

Now to the preposterous claim that Democrat party and Republican party switched places, especially in the South.  Of the 21 Democratic senators who opposed the 1964 act, only one would ever change parties (Storm Thurmond). Nor did the people that elected these Democrats throw them out in favor of Republicans, the remaining 20 continued to be elected as Democrats or were replaced by Democrats.   It took 25 years after the Civil Rights Act before the South started turning Republican.   Robert KKK Byrd saw no reason to change.

 

There is no radical break in the Republicans’ civil-rights history: From abolition to Reconstruction to the anti-lynching laws, from the Fourteenth and Fifteenth Amendments to the Civil Rights Act of 1875 to the Civil Rights Acts of 1957, 1960, and 1964, there exists a line that connects the politics of Lincoln with those of Dwight D. Eisenhower.   If Southern Democrats were conservatives and racist, they certainly wouldn't have changed over to the Republican party.
