JRob's  three first-round picks from 2020-2022 will preclude him from ever garnering serious consideration for another NFL GM gig.   Wilson, Farley and Burks might very well be the single most useless

lol hearing QC talking about the importance of the OL…..

Next they'll have Meathead on saying someone should trade for Dillard!

I have no doubt he'd have worked his tail off but I don't think it would've gone like it went.  Brady didn't become the Brady we know without a ton of good fortune.  That 2001 team had so many breaks go their way.  I always wondered had the rule been what it is today would they have just gone back to Bledsoe in 2002.  And, remember, the 2002 team didn't make the playoffs.  Whose to say that the Patriots, even had they stayed with Brady, didn't say, well, this was a 6th round pick, he didn't play well in the one playoff game he played in, at home, they lost, they missed the playoffs in 2002 and it's time to move on.  Everything started so perfectly for him that he was able to make his way up and eventually become what we know him as.

I’ve read a few books about Belichick & the Pats. He was never going back to Bledsoe, never even considered it in the Super Bowl. A big part of that was Bledsoe himself. BB wasn’t crazy about him at all & felt saddled with his massive contract. Apparently Bledsoe was fully expecting to get the Super Bowl start, talk about lack of awareness.

I always wondered if Bledsoe had played two decades later if he'd have been drafted anywhere before the fourth round, let alone the first overall pick.  Maybe he'd have been a mid-round guy.  His skill set was essentially the same as Mike Glennon's or Zach Mettenberger's.  Big arm but couldn't move at all.  The way the game is played today if you can't move you need to be able to have a quick release or manuever the pocket, both things Bledsoe couldn't do.  He'd pat the ball and only succeed if the protection was there.  Once things broke down forget it.

What happened to Robinson's CBSSports career?  Did they replace him with Carthon?  It's actually possible that they did.  Robinson was on and then all of the sudden he wasn't and Carthon was all over the place.

I think he’s definitely better than those 2, especially Glennon who actually had a weak arm despite his size. But I basically think you’re spot on. The league clearly isn’t fooled by these guys who “look the part” anymore. Sometimes I think the modern approach invests too much into mobility & athleticism, but it certainly does seem smarter to err in that direction rather than prioritizing guys who look great at 6’4 230 with huge arms but can only function when their primary read gets open & take tons of sacks.

If you think about it did Bledsoe ever elevate a team? The only time he looked great was the first handful of games in Buffalo after BB traded him. Parcells brought a ton of talent into NE & they did get to a Bowl but Pete Carroll couldn’t win anything with him. Dallas also exploded when Romo replaced him.

Then again Rick Mirer was much more in today’s mold & he was AWFUL. I wasn’t even a teenager when they were drafted but I remember these 2 were considered mega QB prospects when drafted.

Bledsoe’s best stretch with the Patriots was in 1994 during their seven game winning streak.  They started 3-6 and they won the final seven to get into the playoffs (losing, ironically, to Bill Belichick and the Cleveland Browns which is amazingly the last playoff game played in Cleveland, more than 30 years ago).  He helped carry them and looked like a future star.  The first of those games was the one where he threw the ball 70 times against the Vikings.  After that he treaded water.  Yeah, he had some nice games, they did get to a Super Bowl but he never really got better.  He had that nice start in Buffalo but that was short lived as well.  He was an easy QB to game plan against.  Just blitz him and if you got there he had no chance.
