Wisconsin fake electors coming clean. I still can't believe people wanted to die on this hill of hot air while abetting a fucking coup. And reading through the article, the RICO laws seem appropriate as this was a broadly coordinated effort to defraud the US electorate and illegally maintain Trump in power.

The 10 Wisconsin Republicans who falsely asserted former President Trump won the election there conceded that their actions were part of an effort to subvert the state’s election results as part of a settlement agreement made public Wednesday.

The alternate electors affirmed that President Biden won the 2020 election in the Badger State and that they were not Wisconsin’s “duly elected” presidential electors as they previously claimed, revoking the false documents they filed on Dec. 14, 2020 — the first time any pro-Trump electors have done so.

Those filings were later used “as part of an attempt to improperly overturn the 2020 presidential election results,” the so-called “fake electors” said. “We oppose any attempt to undermine the public’s faith in the ultimate results of the 2020 presidential election,” read a statement by the 10 Republicans that was attached to the settlement agreement. The statement is part of a settlement involving a $2.4 million lawsuit filed by Biden’s Democratic electors against the Republicans.  The fake electors won’t pay any damages or attorneys fees under the deal, and there is no admission of culpability or liability.

As part of the agreement, the pro-Trump electors pledged not to serve as electors in 2024 or in any election where Trump is on the ballot. They also agreed to cooperate with ongoing or future Justice Department investigations tied to efforts to interfere with the lawful transfer of power following the 2020 election or efforts to interfere with the certification of that election.

Sucks that they won’t be charged with anything or have any punishment.

They should never be able to vote or serve public office. They should also be imprisoned for a decade.

Wow, typically when I've seen these cases it's the jury that awards the huge amount that then is adjusted by the judge to be realistic.

Can't recall a recent one like this where the judge ordered it. I'm sure there is, but interested to hear from our lawyer friends.

This was a jury

An eight-person jury in Washington, D.C. on Friday ruled that former Donald Trump personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani must pay nearly $150 million in damages to mother-daughter Fulton County election workers Wandrea "Shaye" Moss and Ruby Freeman.

The jury awarded over $16 million in compensatory damages and $20 million for intentional infliction of emotional distress to each woman. Giuliani was also hit with $75 million in punitive damages.

I didn’t realize I used it interchangeably. Correction noted.

Thanks for the clarification. Multiple headlines from multiple outlets were fairly misleading if what you posted is accurate - makes much more sense based on this info.

I heard a podcast that had one of the guys from Lawfare podcast talking about the upcoming DC trial. The Jan 6th committee didn't have the power the prosecutors have. People with the inside knowledge have already testified.

They predicted bombshell testimony in regards to the planning of Jan 6th and it's what Trump likely fears the most.

As far as the Rudy stuff.

They know the idiot supporters will believe anything they say. Rudy is broke so this doesn't hurt him really.

He's apparently got property that he might be forced to sell to pay at least some if these.
