Nicky Haley finished a distant 2nd in the Nevada primary tonight. But she didn’t technically lose to Trump, who wasn’t even on the ballot. She lost to “none of these candidates”.

 

Though for what it’s worth, in the GOP primary, “none of these candidates” truly is the best choice…

This is untrue. I didn't push back against that data itself so much as the context of the data.  I didn't call him emotional for responding; I called him emotional for blowing up and throwing a temper tantrum because someone offered a different perspective.

Making crossing the border a felony doesn’t really fix the problem though, does it. Most of these people are coming here to ask for asylum. That’s legal.

I do think there needs to be a change in policy for asylum seekers and deals struck with countries in SA to help stem the flow. I also can't think of a good reason why people illegally entering the country would not be considered a crime. Some countries shoot people for that. Now, I'm not advocating that. That's horrible policy and we WANT a lot of these people to come in. We just want to reserve the right to choose who and we want them to follow the rules to come legally. 

 

Now the process to enter legally sucks and it needs to be looked as well. I have a great deal of personal frustration with that gem when I brought my wife over. She's a US Citizen now but it took years, a ton of ass pain, and a bunch of money to make it happen.

Unlawful presence is probably what you are thinking of, as that alone is pretty much a civil violation (that could result in deportation).

Illegal Entry is a crime under Federal Law - 8 U.S. Code § 1325. Illegal Reentry is also a crime under Federal Law - 8 U.S. Code § 1326. Now the severity of the punishment may not be enough or the classification of a first time offense as a misdemeanor, but illegally entering the U.S. is a crime. 

 

Although on the topic of immigration reform itself, I agree that Congress needs to get their shit together and reform/overhaul existing immigration law. Pretty much why any criminal defense attorney in Texas has to consult with an immigration lawyer for a client who is in the United States without status; it's too damn complex and confusing.

It was in response to the video showing every democratic candidate being in favor of decriminalizing illegal entry. Thanks for the clarification though, It helps to provide context to have the exact wording.

Yeah, it's just a misdemeanor. Honestly the main thing they need to do is increase personnel and improve the speed of processing. The vast majority are just looking for a better life.

So the problem in my mind is that most come here with little to no education or skills. Their children are then born here, entitling them to welfare, social services, and US citizenship. They bog down health care and public education and drive housing costs through the roof because of the demand for lower-income housing.

 

Again, I want immigrants; I am not trying to be some racist xenophobe when I say this stuff, but I think we need to be honest when discussing this because many people love to talk about the human side of things without considering the very real impact to America as a result of these well-intentioned policies.

Best idea I’ve heard yet was starkillers idea to not offer citizenship at birth unless one parent is American. That alone would kill most of the incentive to come illegally.
