They could have traded any combination of AJ, their current first round pick, future first round picks, and other players. If they didn't like this draft, they could have done it last year. When teams are dead set on getting a QB, they find a way to do it. Period.

for who?... maybe Russell? Thats it of the players clearly better that were available.

RT, AJ, Autry, 2-1sts, 2-2nds, and a 5th likely beats the Broncos. ...But he had a no trade clause and got to pick Denver because he wanted to be there.

That was the only option we didnt pursue - that we know of.

Of course they didn't like this draft, nobody did, and arguing the way to replace Tannehill this year was to do it last year is well beneath you ... as is trying to shift from teams that want to improve on a mediocre QB to to teams that simply want to replace their starter. One just requires a new guy, the other requires a one of a very limited number of people. Thank God the Titans aren't just trying to replace Tannehill ... but they actively tried to improve on him in essentially every reasonable way possible this year.

Makes no sense to deny it, especially like this.

This offseason Russell Wilson was traded.  Deshaun Watson was traded.

TItans could have paid the price for an elite QB but wisely didn’t… because they already have one.

Which QB in the first round of this draft do you think the organization valued?  In 2020, the Titans courted Brady until it was obvious he was signing with the Bucs and re-upped Tannehill right before the beginning of FA, with no obvious replacement.  Over this offseason, they tried to trade for both Aaron Rodgers and DeShaun Watson .  Brady, Rodgers and Watson are upgrades.  Tannehill is a middle of the road starter.  The team would be silly to replace Tannehill with a lesser talent just for the sake of replacing him.  Tannehill was aware of the offseason inquiries and didn't show up because his feelings were hurt.  And he didn't show up until the team traded up to pick Willis.  If you can't see the team has been in on every possible upgrade at QB, even trading up to take a sliding, yet talented QB as a replacement, you are just choosing to ignore the obvious.

This is the most coherent explanation of Tannehill and the QB position of the Titans anyone has posted.  It's all what actually happened.  You can say he's a scrub or he's elite, but the main opinion of our QB is how the organization sees him.

Gun to my head I'd put Tannehill around 13.  But as I said in another thread trying to rank QBs when you don't see most of them play regularly is an exercise in futility.

That being said here's who I'd rank ahead of Tannehill right now, just going in order by division:

Allen

Burrow

Watson

Wilson

Mahomes

Carr

Herbert

Prescott

Rodgers

Brady

Stafford

50/50 on Murray but probably yes

So that puts him at 13.  I would put Ryan and Cousins as basically equal to Tannehill.

Carr is not better than Tannehill.  Prescott is debatable as well.

Well, we know at least one of those guys is somebody the Titans wanted to trade for and they were told they couldn't.

Totally true. Every word. But Tannehill can also be replaceable and considerably better than Kirk Cousins at the same time. The two things aren't mutually exclusive.

The browns offered way more money and capital to watson and the texans on top of being a dysfunctional franchise. The Titans win often and are in the Texans division. The Browns are a much better bet to collapse and give the Texans a good pick.

Similarly, we didn't have any young players to send to Seattle and they likely didn't want to take back Tannehill's contract.

And Brady likely chose the Bucs because they paid him more and he could walk into Godwin and Evans as his WRs.

With any trade, you need a partner.  In the draft last year, Jax wasn't trading number 1, SF traded up to 2 and Jets were taking at QB at 3.  Chicago traded up for Fields.  Houston were not trading Watson within the division,  GB was not trading Rodgers and Wilson didn't want to come close to the east coast.  This whole argument (Tannehill's great standing with the org) of if the team wanted to replace Tannehill, they would have is a fantasy.  They want to and will upgrade Tannehill as soon a humanly possible.

If he bounces back to pre 2021 form, he’ll deserve one.

I do not believe the Titans believe he needs to “bounce back”, he kept the offense afloat last year despite everything around him crumbling
