Seventy House Republicans voted in favor of an amendment to the country's annual defense bill that would have cut off all US military aid to Ukraine.

"Notwithstanding any provision of this or any other Act, no federal funds may be made available to provide security assistance to Ukraine," reads the one-sentence amendment, one of the dozens offered by hard-right Republicans that lawmakers voted on over the course of Thursday evening.

The amendment easily failed by a 358-70 margin, with all Democrats and a majority of Republicans opposing the measure.

Would be interesting to see the overlap of these 70 repubs compared to the nay votes on the infrastructure bill, the CHIPS act, BuildBack, and if they are taking credit for local programs from these federal funds.  "Nyet, to everything!!"

Shame is gone and right wing media ecosystem ensures minimal accountability to their constituents for their performative theatrics (focus on da trans issues!), but this shit is getting out of hand. GOP leadership is at a low point , but at least the senior senators should stand up and make the case for Ukraine and our support for democracy in Europe.  It's not cheap, but it's pennies on the dollar versus the alternative of capitulating to a dictator and his kleptocracy regime.

Looking at the video footage, the battleground areas look like flat, wide open terrain between random tree belts.  A reasonably well fortified, dug in Russian army with decent artillery fire was certainly going to do damage.  Conversely, to rush forward and advance en masse would likely result in a Pickett's Charge moment, and a wavering of confidence from Western allies.

Watching the Reporting from Ukraine YT channel, it certainly seems that more HIMARS strikes are being used recently, on the second level and this along with cluster munitions may drive a decisive wedge.  Again referring to his YT channel, the town of Yakoklivka well situated on the high ground with coverage to a significant portion of the surrounding area that was captured late last year, including Soledar.

There’s definitely a small-but-very-vocal minority of Republicans who are basically isolationists who would love nothing more than to convert the United States into an island state.

Their vision for America would include the cutting of all foreign ties and international relations, the closing off of all borders, and a heavily-armed population to battle the impending hordes of foreign non-white invaders who are coming to take everyone’s jobs and muddy America’s beautiful gene pool with  dirty non-white transgendered babies.
