ctm
LONDON, March 10 (Reuters) - The U.S. Navy has refused near-daily requests from the shipping industry for military escorts through the Strait of Hormuz since the start of the war on Iran, saying the risk of attacks is too high for now, according to sources familiar with the matter. The Navy's assessments spell continued disruption to Middle East oil exports and reflect a divergence from President Donald Trump’s statements that the U.S. is prepared to provide naval escorts whenever needed to restart regular shipments along the key waterway. The U.S. Navy has held regular briefings with shipping and oil industry counterparts and has said during those briefings it is unable to provide escorts for the time being, three shipping industry sources familiar with the matter said. Saudi Arabia's Aramco, the world's top oil exporter, said on Tuesday there would be "catastrophic consequences" for the world's oil markets if the war on Iran continues to disrupt shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/us-navy-tells-shipping-industry-hormuz-escorts-not-possible-now-2026-03-10/ Edited March 12 by ctm Starkiller, and IsntLifeFunny

This is the dumbest motherfucker to have ever stepped foot in the White House. And I don’t mean the dumbest person to ever hold the office, I mean literally the dumbest person to ever walk in the building. ctm
President Donald Trump's sudden announcement that the U.S. would unload some of its Strategic Petroleum Reserves to ease the market pressure resulting from the war in Iran caught some allies off guard, according to a new report. On Tuesday, Energy Secretary Chris Wright told his global counterparts that an intervention was "premature" because the price of an oil barrel had stabilized near $90. Two hours later, Trump had changed his mind and forced the administration to begin preparing to release the country's oil reserves, the WSJ reported. https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/trump-s-dramatic-oil-market-maneuver-stunned-his-own-allies-report/ar-AA1YqYgG?ocid=msedgntp&pc=HCTS&cvid=69b2f78af9984e9db4da03af2949a29a&cvpid=da879425f8114c1cc8bc4b59be43c2d3&ei=13 This is what no overall coherent strategy looks like. OzTitan
In the last day or so, I've noticed a sudden surge of interest in Kharg Island by various media. Its infrastructure supports ~90% if Iran's oil exports (mostly going to China). If there is going to be a ground invasion or development beyond launching missiles, it seems like a good candidate, but it would be a significant escalation. You'd hope at least Trump isn't dumb enough to actually destroy it. The surge of interest is possibly just a copy-cat effect of one outlet making it a topic and others following suite, but sometimes these things get run up the flagpole first. The fact is the only way towards regime change is a ground invasion. If the regime falls you have to secure the enriched uranium.
