Democrats can hold up nominations the same way Tuberville has. The President can simply fire the Defense Secretary - and believe me, he would - and replace that person with his own, and he can appoint the Chiefs of Staff with approval from Congress. At the end of the day, he would be the commander-in-chief, but this idea that you can replace all the current generals with MAGA loyalists is pure fiction sprouted by people who have no clue how the military operates. Senior military officers are apolitical, and it is a virtue that most of them take VERY seriously. This is why you saw so much pushback when both Trump and Pelosi and others tried to politicize the military before. Guys like General Flynn are an incredible minority. Congrats to you on knowing how things are normally done. It's not about how things are normally done. It's about what they can get away w/ and how long it takes to stop them. He'd fire the Defense Secretary. And he'd appoint a temporary Chief of Staff and then just never submit anyone for approval from Congress so the temporary guy stays in charge. He did it w/ multiple orgs when he was in office before. And as it's going through the courts to "decide" the legality of it, whoever he appointed would just do what he wants. And those people would ignore the list the military generates and nominate only MAGA into positions of authority in the military. Then the bet is that if Trump wins the election that they'll also win back the Senate. So Tuberville is trying to create as many openings for Trump to fill in the military as possible. When it comes to the Dems doing the same thing, Dems have a way of getting around Tuberville's objections now. They're just not doing it b/c they're respecting the process. Trump won't do that. Dems won't be able to stop it. Edited December 6, 2023 by reo titanruss

He's protesting the Army's policy decision to pay for service members crossing state lines to get abortion services. There's no mystery, conspiracy, or secret agenda. He's said as much from the very beginning, and there's no reason to doubt it. In fact, I would argue the burden of proof is on the people making an additional leap to make a statement about future events based on assumptions and a lack of any evidence whatsoever to back it up while also displaying a gross misunderstanding of how the process actually works. My comment was making the same point, I hope. But yes Roger Ailes as Nixon’s TV guy purposefully created FoxNews to ensure an alternate media sphere built on emotional narratives would protect and enable repub politicians. Our service academies are the pipelines for our military leadership. There, the ethos of honor, service, loyalty to the country and the constitution is sacrosanct, lived and breathed. These honorable men and women will not suddenly flip for the Cheeto dust and retribution fueled maga grievances. Also, consider that fighting spirit morale, selflessness/sacrifice are the tenets of the corps, with the idea of reasonable rewards and promotion in a professional environment. To suddenly say all these worthy leaders will now need to kiss the ring,… again I’m extremely skeptical. Honestly, some of this “Trump gonna” rhetoric is over the top. I believe Trump and this amorphous mobbed up maga shit is the worst political environment in generations. That said, based on the demographics of the military and the impacts to morale alone, I don’t think any president can just snap fingers and flip our military into a slavish politically aligned armed forces overnight. That’s why it hasn’t happened. Much of this bullshit is their grift porn to keep the donations pouring in. Of course the burden of proof should come from accusers... but that proof can't be found - especially by us here - because no one in politics is dumb enough to say outright that they want to be a part of a single party dictatorship.. other than Trump. Of course, nothing is actual 'proof' until the action occurs. Milley threatened to, he refused to break his values to either Trump or Pelosi, and he reassured the Chinese, at great personal risk, to keep relations stable when very powerful political figures who had the power to remove him were threatening him. General Kelly, I know many here hated him, but he quit when it became too much and faded into the night. He didn't write a book about it to aggrandize himself. In fact, there's a book coming out that claims both Mattis and Kelly called Trump an idiot in secret, but you never heard anything like that from them in public. Why? Because they swore an oath to the constitution and they were protecting the office, not the man.

Being highly racist with unwavering vocal support for another highly racist man that tried to take over the country - and said straight up he wants to and will be a dictator ... that is usually enough for most people to reasonably question his intentions. He supports the guy that wants to put people in charge of the military to run a dictatorship. .. and he's weakening the military's leadership. It's not that hard to see the connection. The same guy he adores put people in leadership positions to intentionally destroy the education system and post office. The Secret Service is compromised, the FBI is compromised, the Capitol police were compromised, he compromised our military intel numerous times intentionally,... and you dont think he wants the military leadership compromised? How do you think coups work? Here's a military guy that also thinks the military could be compromised to aid in a coup: https://www.npr.org/2021/12/31/1068930675/us-election-coup-january-6-military-constitution Justafan
