IsntLifeFunny
@chef maybe you could start a thread about political ideology? I'd like to read it. @Justafan I think your points are valid and even though I've become more liberal because of what I've witnessed doesn't mean I don't take into consideration what both of you're saying. The echo chamber on both sides is expanding and closing in to the point there's no room left for conversation. It sucks. As mentioned, I'm politically very centrists, but being raised in Nashville has spurned me. I have NY in-laws that are sick of democrats because of their experience. And are for Trump because of local politics, not federal. It's an odd experiential juxtaposition. I'm sure chef and Justafan have a more global view, but that also doesn't mitigate the regional view. I never said that the current threat is equal in the least. I've said many times that I'm not huge fan of Biden but Trump terrifies me. This started because I said I think Biden will lose to Trump and I have a problem with the Dogma on both sides. Gotcha, thanks for grounding this a bit. Sadly, I think you're right because of the EC. Regardless, I'm fairly frightened about what may occur if Trump loses outright OR if Biden wins the popular while losing the EC. I don't look forward to the threats either way. I think the DOJ and FBI has done enough to quell any future bullshit like Jan 6th. We are very lucky as a country that Trump cares what others think. If he had of fully unleashed the hounds that day plays out very differently. I think it's likely to harken back to the 60's and 70's though. Sectarian violence is going to happen in my opinion. It should also be pointed out that dogma isn’t inherently a bad thing. Abolishment of slavery was dogma. Women’s suffrage was dogma. So was the civil rights movement. And social Security. And Medicare. Every great political movement has been dogmatic. Don’t get me wrong, opposition to all of those things has also been political dogma. It’s not inherently good or bad. But any political moment is going to come from dogma. So don’t demonize dogma.

Um, no. Abolishment of slavery was not "dogma". People recognized the injustice that was happening and fought against it. I think you have some warped opinion of what the word DOGMA means, and so have some illogical response to my opinions. Dogma is "a fixed, especially religious, belief or set of beliefs that people are expected to accept without any doubts." The problem there is they are told to accept things that are obviously untrue because they feel good, or they are told not to question things when there is evidence that an opinion or belief is wrong. The civil rights movement was the exact opposite of dogma, though dogmatic beliefs certainly arose from the ashes because of it. The civil rights era was not "dogma", though dogmatic risen as a result. chef

That’s dogma… You say that abolishment was not dogma, that people just “recognized the injustice that was happening and fought against it”. Hardly. What is more dogmatic than a belief that founds a new political party and then splits the country and causes a civil war?

This is simply you refusing to admit you have no idea what the word Dogma means.

Their culture war is probably the easiest thing to point at. Far left Dems want me to pretend that if a man and a woman both play professional sports, they are essentially the same. But I would say a lot of the things I hear about government spending, the insistence that anything provocative is off limits, the demand to require me to change the language I use based on how others feel - not hate speech-, toxic masculinity, the denials of the reality of what has happened in the middle east over the last twenty years, the insistence on certain experts never being questioned even in unsettled science, the complete shutdown of any conversation that doesn't support the moral certainty of that left group etc.

Well, if we can't even agree that the definition of dogma actually means what Webster says it does, we're not going to get very far.
